Hockey gives them high by Ivan Crasto
by pkg on Mar 13, 2004 08:47 AM

Dear Ivan,
I think there is not dearth of availability of funds but proper usage of it (Also worry if it will go to the people who want/need it instead of middle person).

I would be willing to provide 10 hockey sticks at the total cost of Rs 3500/-. Only condition is these should go to the people who need it and can utilize it. I can go beyond it by saying that support a couple of player to let them reach there turning points like getting selected to nation team.
First part is simple and clear, we might need to spend sometime how to invest in second part.

Hockey.

Hi friends,
I read your article "Hockey gives them a high" and was very impressed with the talent we have in our country.
As it was mentioned that these people are from the adivasi tribes and do not have the basic facilities to train I appreciate the step taken by YMCA and friends in Delhi who have organised such a event.

As a citizen of this country if I can be of any help in your kind deed please feel free to contact me.

Regards and all the best for the finals.

grass-root hockey
by Dr Anil R Dungdung on Mar 12, 2004 04:00 PM

Dear Editor,
I am sending this mail from manchester and it gives me immense pleasure to know that hockey-national sport is alive at the grass root level.the tribal belt of chottanagpur region has some of the world class budding hockey players. It just a sad story that we have this wonderfull dream of winning GOLD in olympics, but we fail to identify the untapped talent that is present in this poverty clad region of jharkand.I really appreciate this efforts of YMCA to promote this game.I would like to salute these country men who play this game in spite of all their difficulties in their life.It comes as no surprise to me that hockey runs in the blood and bones of adivasi players.I wouldn't be surprised if one day we find a penalty corner specialist like Sohail Abaas coming from the adivasi region.I do hope that the sports mi9nester reads this wonderfull article.I am also impressed by the recent efforts of hockey official to start the NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE like matches.this will surely go a long way in promoting my national game HOCKEY.cheers to all the players who played recently in olympic qualifiying matches.
