BUT PERFORMANCE DOES MATTER
by shrikant on Jun 30, 2004 04:18 PM

it'll be a lesson to the supposdly GIANT players of the game that matches are not won on fame or names. you have to perform in every game and that with cooperating it with other players(instead of nourishing one's ego).
HATS OFF TO THESE SMALL NATIONS WHO HAVE PERFORMED BRILLIANTLY !!!!!

Stop baseless bashing!

While praise and recognition of young and up-coming
players is to be welcomed, there is no need to bash
established players. After all, it's a team game and I don't
think Raul or Henry or Figo or Beckham lacked commitment.
They did not become established big players without
playing well. Media has lot of responsibility in handling
issues like this and why is this finger-pointing towards those
players money and ad and hoardings? I think they have
earned all those by themselves. Doesn't this mean it's a frail
mentality to blamed players like this? Is it a chance to dig at
those players? Next time media questions any player's
commitment, they should have proper evidence to back that
up. Otherwise it would be a plain instigation of masses out
of silly mentality.

I think the point being made here is that no player is bigger than his performance. After all Euro 2004 (and earlier the World Cup) has thrown up much more than a few surprises. Why such talent wasnt uncovered in leagues earlier is what needs to be pondered over? Also it gives the lesser known nations reason to not be intimidated by the established teams.

well, what kind of crap are you talking? no one ever said those players didnt deserve their money.. all that is pointed out is that inspite of all that they could not perform in THIS tournament. stop your blind faith in the high paid players.. they are good.. but what the article intends to say is that if they are good. there are others also who are equally good if not better.. just that they did not get their chances to show their talent. i do not see a single sentence that says that says that beckham, raul or henry are bad players... and talking of evidence.. the euro is enough to show evidence to write that those players couldnt make a mark... do u remember a single thing that beckham, henry or raul did in the tournament ? i say no, but they still are amongst the best players. so stop your useless cribs and try to read the article in its spirit.
ps: talking of did any player leave a mark.. i would say beckham did leave a BIG mark in euro 2004.. i dont need to elaborate.
