Arjen Robben for the Netherlands and Pavel Nedved for the Czechs were just superb during a night of high quality football. Edgar Davids, Clarence Seedorf and Edwin van der Sar deserved something more than what they got at the end of a classic thriller. The second booking of the expelled Dutchman will be debated. That could be the only blot on the otherwise evenly fought epic encounter in recent times. Waves of attacks and counter attacks kept the defenders and spectators on their toes throughout the contest. We appreciate the efforts of the supremely talented Dutch squad and salute their worthy conquerors.

I assume you did not miss the 'European footballer of the year' - Nedved - diving? Davids Diving? It was a great match no doubt, but the needless diving by the players from both sides was a black mark on the game and on the sport as a whole. Fair play is at a premium these days.
