IOA often acts clumsily.
by chanakya on Jun 12, 2004 12:50 PM

And its clumsiness is culminated by political pressures and interferences.

This makes one doubtful whether IOA functions independently at all, and if it really does, its functioning is not only disappointing but also disgusting.

This could be one of the reasons why there are disappointly fewer olympic gold/silver for Bharat Varsh.

Tragic for Indian sports
by Manuel Vaz on Jun 11, 2004 12:47 AM

It is indeed tragic that the bearers of the Olympic flame were filmstars rather than athletes. This only goes to show the lackaidasical attitude on the part of the authorities towards the athletes.
Filmstars have got nothing to do with sports and they should not have carried the Olympic flame. It was the right of the athletes to carry the Olympic flame, which was grabbed from them due to some advertisements deals.
This attitude by the authorities will demoralise the athletes and affect their performances at the Olympics. If we are not going to give the athletes their due, then we should not expect miracles from them.
I, as an athlete, vhemently protest this act and term this as the black day in Indian sports.

Yes, this is the reason why India is behind in sports. Those who deserve are not given and so the interest is lost.
It`s not that I don`t like filmstars, but since it was the Olympic torch only spots persons who represented India should have been given preference.
I totally agree with what Mr. Milkha Singh said.

Agree with the Flying sikh
by sickofbollywood on Jun 10, 2004 10:37 PM

I agree that it is ridiculous that bollywood asteroids
get to carry the torch when we have so many sportsmen
who deserve to. Why cant the bollywood asteroids
stick to making better movies.

Olypic is sports or Film festivel MR. Kalmid and S. Dutt
by prem kumar on Jun 10, 2004 01:25 PM

It is really very painful know that Indian sports field is filled with film stars not really with relevant people. If this kind of people forgotten and the sports officials go behind their favorites and others. It is shameful for Indian in aboard to know that important sports people are not included like P.T. Usha. I think mr. Kalmdi and Dutt are not right persons to promote the sports in our country they play for their own benefit this is the Indian sports is declining day by day. The very efficient and aable sports man are left out and Kalmids favorites even the are film stars nothing know about sports may take part in Olympic if we have this kind of people in the office all that I can say is shame shamefor country and disappointment for the sports person. Hope media will take this as serious as to promote and give due to our champions not to the film stars.

Spirit? What kind of Spirit?
by P. Ravindra Varma, Hyderabad on Jun 10, 2004 01:00 PM

The politicians are here yet once again, one of them a former film star. Kalmadi or Dutt said it was a city run, so why are they blabbering about the youth, the commonwealth games and the olympic spirit. It relates just to Delhi right? Omission of PT Usha is nothing but a national shame. Goes on to prove that how short a memory our politicians and administrators have. And please, for god's sake, don't talk of olympic spirit, these people are nowhere near to a position to understand that.

It seems Msrs Kalmadi and Dutta are treating it like their home ceremony and obliging friends. What a Sports Minister and what a president of Indian Olympic Association. No wonder India doesn't produce many medal winners.
