False Impression
by Nikhil on Jul 06, 2004 12:03 AM

hi

Its pretty disappointing to read the way the Goans are criticized over the entire episode. For everybody's kindest information some of the things about Goa "drowning in sorrow" is absolutely false.

To put things into perspective Goans enjoy football as a whole. Some of the christians have blood relations with the Portuguese and hence the display of partiality.

So kindly verify the statements that are made by media before making such bold comments.

My heart went flat when Italy went out

Why U Guys are fighting for Goa and Portugal cries.
I am an Indian but was happy as we have maternal uncles' team called Italy Poor 'Mama Log' fizzled out in first round. Then My heart started beating with England that also went out with out any fuss.
The way Indians are spreading out, England, Italy, Portugal all would be part of India, well looking exggaration now but after 50 years or so it would definately be. EU would be part of United States of India.

Big Cheers for Greece!

What a Shame! ..Portugal ?
by Jay Ganguli on Jul 05, 2004 06:41 PM

Why should Goans support Portugese? This is a glaring example of what happens if any portion of India becomes a Hindu minority. Kashmir, Kerala
NE are already filled with people with trans-national interests. Now, stop giving me the bullshit that Goans are great soccer fans. If they were they should be feeling sorry for the fate of the Indian Soccer team...not Portugal. There are millions of if-you-give-me-quota-and-money-for-haj-indians whose love for cricket jumps by leaps and bounds if Pakistan wins a cricket match. Its these kind of behaviour which spoils the name of the whole community.

Goa goes flat...
by Mario Po on Jul 05, 2004 05:55 PM

I am a Mozambique-born Goan Portuguese citizen living in Portugal. As such, no wonder if i would be a Portuguese soccer team fan. But for Goans LIVING IN GOA, i think its not normal, it smacks of a lack of personality and self-respect and in that i agree with Mr Shri Kant opinion. After all, one of Bharat`s greatest sons, King Ashoka had a Greek mother and many a person in Punjab, Haryana and northwestern UP descends from the Greek legionaires left by Alexander of Macedonia and even the Chitpavans of Maharashtra are said to hail from Greece. The cultural, astrological and philosophical relationship between Greece and India is more ancient and much more important than the schizophrenic (how come that people who were Hindus for millenia come, after conversion to Christianity, to despise the very NOBLE RELIGION that is HINDUISM and whose forebears professed for millenia?!) ties arising of Portuguese colonial rule. So, in a sense, India should support, if any side, the Greek team.

Don't know why ...
by Tushar on Jul 05, 2004 02:59 PM

I don't know why such an importance is attached to portugal in Goa. Agreed, Goa was a portugese colony before 40 yrs. But THAT'S A HISTORY NOW!

Jai Hind.

USELESS PEOPLE OF GOA
by pai on Jul 05, 2004 01:35 PM

I am ashamed by this sort of behaviour by the goans ,
why should we celebrate or feel bad about an imperial country that RULED us,that too with an IRON FIST.
Pushing a lot of Goans out of Goa and enforced CONVERSIONS. Broke a lot of temples and our sacred historical symbols.
Countries like Portugal and England do not deserve any such pity or favouritism.

Best we leave them as it is. Incompetent Nations at the moment. We should learn to - like the US dump such imperial hangovers of servility and come above it.

Be Independant Goans, at least now after 50 years.
