Suspension of Paul
by Ayan Bhattacharya on Dec 09, 2004 11:02 AM

The ban slapped on Subroto Paul should be because of the challenge only and not for the tragic death of Junior. Surely he didn't want to kill Junior. But at the same time that was a atrocious challenge. He should get a suspension purely on the basis on the challenge. AIFF has every right to suspend him even if the referee failed to do that in the match. Disciplinary action on the basis of video replay is in use in football for more than 10 years now, so there is no point in arguing that the referee didn't show him the card.

The response of Mohun Bagan coach Subrata Bhattacharya is all the more shocking. He even had the audacity of saying that Junior was on dope. This shows a lack of basic humanity on Subrata's part. This shows how low that man can stoop for his personal gains.

Junior's death
by Ayan Bhattacharya on Dec 09, 2004 10:57 AM

The responsibility of Juniors death lies on the authorities. Why wasn't there any doctor on the field. There was only a physiotherapist. Why wasn't he taken to Mallaya Hospita which was just across the road from the stadium. Why wasn't the oxygen cylinder in the ambulance working. All that when the president of AIFF was there in the stadium. And would you believe it -- he was the ground director in one of the venues in WC 98 (France). That means he is aware of the requirements. Then why didn't he enforced them Isn't this a criminal negligence.

Justice
by Saurav Chaudhuri on Dec 08, 2004 08:43 PM

To the Editor:
Sir,
Hats off to AIFF justice - they are in the process of ending the career of a young goalkeeper who was involved in an unfortunate clash leading to the death of our beloved Junior.
Can they evade the questions like why there was no sufficient medical facility in the ground. With a proper medical care, Junior could have lived.
I think this is a cover up for the mismanagement at the AIFF level.
It is time for the football fans to rally behind Subrato Paul and protest the decisions of AIFF

Yours Faithfully
Saurav Chaudhuri

AIFF looks for a scapegoat
by Subhajyoti on Dec 08, 2004 08:19 PM

This is ridiculous, have you heard of something like this:

You are not cautioned/yellow-red carded by the ref. Yet the governing body suspends you.

This is only possible in India, where the national governing body, AIFF runs by the whims and fancies of couple of people who has nothing to do with the development of soccer in India.

I think this is sheer case of medical negligence. We could have easily saved Junior, had the Kanteerava Stadium equipped of some life saving drugs. But, no, thats not the way AIFF functions.

Paul behaviour
by Ganesh on Dec 08, 2004 06:22 PM

His behaviour is really rude on the field, when we observe during the final of Fed cup as well this final. He should be banned for entire life , as he is not a true sportsman, as sports are meant for developing friendship and gentlemanship in game they are playing for. He trying to fool all the viewers and people in general, by saying that he went for ball rather than player.
"hey paul ! even god will miss your behaviour in the field, but we viewers won't miss you, what you did in the field"

Subrata Pal - a scapegoat
by Sumit Ghosh on Dec 08, 2004 05:53 PM

Dear Sir,
AIFF has punished Subrata Pal, the budding talented goalkeeper of MohunBagan just shade their mismanagement. Football is a body-contact game, and this kind of foul is common now-a-days. Referee is person in the ground who can give the punishment to the players. But he didn't. Now why AIFF is punishing Subrata Pal? If they are punishing this young fellow, then why not Balu, the referee of that ill-fated match? And what about the medical arrangement in the ground? Who will answer it?
