The tragic demise of Junior and after....
by Saurav Chaudhuri on Dec 08, 2004 08:38 PM

To the Editor
Sir,
As a football lover,I am deeply saddened by the unfortunate incident which happened during the Fed Cup final in Bangalore.
Junior's death has sparked a series of comments from different sections of the football fraternity. But the comments made by a footballer named Baichung Bhutia is disturbing. To recall another incident recently, when two footballers(Sasthi and Dipankar) were arrested on charge of harbouring a dreaded criminal at their residence, the same footballer(Baichung Bhutia) came out on the streets to collect signatures for their release. In this case he is issuing provocative comments to the media to end the career of a young goalkeeper who was involved in an unfortunate clash which resulted in the sad death of our beloved Junior.
Is this partialty due to the fact that this young goalkeeper is from a rival footbal club, while the previously two accused were from his own club?
If so, I think Mr. Baichung Bhutia does not desrve the post of Indian football captain.

Lastly, I pray to the Almighty that he gives enough strength to the wife and family of late Junior, so that they can come out of this crisis.

Yours Faithfully
Saurav Chaudhuri

Shameless comment from MB coach
by Ayan Bhattacharya on Dec 08, 2004 07:00 PM

I dont think that Subroto any intention of inflicting a physical injury to junior, but at the same time it was a shocking challenge. He should get a suspension for that challenge (not for Junior's death). Recently in the EPL Van Nisterooy was given a 3 match ban for elbowing an opponent. Subroto's act was far worse than that.

Also what is shocking is that the Mohun Bagan coach Subrata Bhattacharya and the club officials are trying to shift the blame on Junior saying that he was on dope. That shows lack of basic humanity on their part. How can they claim that without an iota of proof. I would say Subrata Bhattacharya himself was on dope when he made that comment. If not then its all the more shameful that a man can stoop to such low.

How can Bhutia claim that Paul should be suspended?
by Arunava Sinha on Dec 06, 2004 11:38 PM

Earlier in the month of November, Bhutia had defended two criminal footballers of EastBengal and claimed that they were innocent even though they were involved in anti-social activities. Now Subrata paul has just made an accident unintentionally and Bhutia is claiming that he should be suspended. If Paul is to be suspended then those two criminal footballers of East Bengal too should be suspended along with Bhutia for defending them.

really it is very shocking o read about someone who is so young, fit and enthusiastic to die after scoring the winning goal.life is more dramatic than any imaginative drama.what one feels to play to win and die on the ground. i have just read about junior in newspapers and yet after reading this i couldnot help myself from crying.. OH GOD !LET THE SOUL REST IN PEACE.

Laments of KSFA President
by D.T.VIJAYARAJ on Dec 06, 2004 07:47 PM

"On criticism that Junior should have been rushed to the nearby Mallya hospital and not to Hosmat Hospital which was two kilometres away, Khaleel said the Brazilian striker was accompanied in the ambulance by officials of Dempo, who should have taken the decision to take him to Mallya realising the gravity of the situation."

In the above statement by the KSFA President I wish to know
1) Does the Goan Team (DEMPO) know that there is a hospital nearby earlier itself?
2) Being an organising association is it not the responsibility of the KSFA to guide the outsiders?
3) Does the Brazilian striker was accompanied only by the team officials? Not with the KSFA officials?
4) What role does KSFA play in the tournament? Does they simply earn money and keep quite?

Will the President answer these questions in Public to clear the image of KSFA?
