Hockey--Are We Capable?
by Venugopal on Aug 27, 2004 06:06 AM

Of course we are capable. Of losing each and every time.We are very capable of finding excuses and always, and I mean always, looking for a negative way of coming into the semis or group leads.Always clinching at some lost thread of a hope of some country losing against another or making a mistake so that even our poor showing and average lets us somehow go into the lead!!! I think it is time the boys all took up Kabadi and concentrated on that. Till the time the other teams pickup that game we still have a hope in there! As for the 1980 Moscow Olympics please don't get carried away by that. We won there because none of the other better teams playing world hockey took part in that Olympics! We can win when there are no players on the other side and goal mouth is empty. Or can we do even that? I remember years back three of our best players in front of the goal-mouth with no opposition player and goalkeeper and yet....... the ball was tapped over the goal post!!!! Kabadi is still there boys. Or is there hope Mr.Gill, other than shuffling around a winning team, players and coaches? I pity the viewers including myself who have to undergo the ordeal of watching an Indian hockey match.
