2nd highest populated country in the world cannot produce high spirited sports personnel?Cheers to Maj. Rathore
by rahul on Aug 25, 2004 09:28 PM

This is really a shocking and shameless situation for us THE PEOPLE OF INDIA.

Being the 2nd highest populated country in the world, its hard to believe that the country cannot produce 50-70% successfull sportsmen.Currently am in a west african country, and the kind of spirit i see in the sports personnel from this country, its unbelievable to c them high spirited and a sense of feeling within them that they want to achieve their goal to make their country PROUD in front of the world. SMALL COUNTRY LIKE THIS WANTING MAKE IT BIG. I can only see ourselves dancing on Maj. Rathore silver medal. But am very sure within his mind, he must be thinking the same as i am, WHY CANT A GREAT COUNTRY WHO HAS PROVED TO THE WORLD WE ARE THE LARGEST ASIAN ECONOMY, PRODUCE GOOD ENERGETIC AND HIGHLY SPIRITED SPORTSMEN? what are they waiting for? If countries like Ethiopia and Kenya and others can push locals(from villages) to become heroes for their countries, why cant we? I am sure we have so many of them in our rural areas, who are feeling the urge within to go out there and do something great for their mother - INDIA.

what is being done to improve our standing? the politicans are only too eagr to get a free trip . what are we doing as a nation to improve this situation?we pay crickters who earn more than they can handle and who turnout poor prformance;why cant a part of the cricket earnings be diverted to other sports where more capabl and needy sports prsonalities can benifit rather than a few ,who we treat as gods and have more than thy can handle.

india & medal dream
by subramanian padmanaban on Aug 25, 2004 09:04 PM

The column stating the longing for a medal is quite bemusing. When 120 cr population is more interested in cinema and wants to sit before the idiot's box for hours together to worthless serials, how can one expect a medal.Indians do not deserve any such feat because their mainstay is only cinema.Pasttime is cinema, entertainment means cinema, hobby is watching cinema, job is cinema, sports is cinema going, next to full eating. So, clamouring for medals is a day dreaming.Even our ex-pm was interested in cinema.Todays sports minister is from cinema. For all indians cinema is a way of life and must for living. Cinema is inseparable from the lives of indians. Hence, expecting gold in an intl event like olympics is abnoxious. We hav no aim in life except to sex & cinema.Ofcourse india is a big nation with big population, but we are for lazy life styles and worthless ventures. So, as long as cinema is live in india, all other things have no value.Next to cinema, politics is main game.Only god should save India. My appeal is that desist from comparing india with small nations who could muster one or two medals with avowed aim. India has no aim.Evident from poor performances in hockey & criket.
