why are we failing in every sporting event. why does this question arise after every olympics or for that matter after every cricket match. A country with over a billion poppulation and just a single silver. any body who feels shameful for this. please dont be so because i am not,i cant think if we ready to send our kids to a sports school rather than the one with high acedamic values in book education. first of all do we have any sports school. the govt hs to wake up... india cant be like this forever.. i think the govt will do some thing abt it.

Well, an Italian once told an Indian that he(the Indian) should be ashamed because he doesn't know how to make pasta. The Indian replied pasta wasn't imporatnt to him and therefore he didn't care one way or the other...in other words there was no sense of shame in him for not making pasta well. My question is, do Indians in general give importance to sports, except cricket? The answer most probably is a resounding no. Then why do we care about a bad performance in Olympics if we know that sports is not important to us? Indians do give a certain amount of importance to studies and we are not doing THAT badly here, we are acknowledged as the knowledge capital of the world at least as far as IT is concerned. We do give importance to cricket (however the number of people playing 'serious' cricket in India is still not much)and we are not doing badly there either. So i dare say that most of the responses here, to poor performace in Olympics in general is borne out of ego- to be counted as among the best in the world in anything whatsoever without justificati. I belive this is a wrong approach to take. We should start loving sports first, as a nation, before we start coveting for medals.

after scripting the samae story so many times now...its time we comp-letely overhaul the way sports in India is handled.Am not requesting but "ordering"...KPS Gill to take a walk- IHF is not your feifdom. respect for what you did in Punjab( though controversial) you have no right to treat IHF as your private company. Same for suresh kalmadi-get out you have had your share of pie...right from the days of Jawahar centenary race in 1987 till now of which i was a part as a 9year old...you have milked enough...you have even become and MP now..you have enough sources..enough money..its time to get out. so do you Mr. Priyaranjan das Munshi and KP Singh Deo...we dont need you- simple...no explanation..none at all.let the sportsmen handle the sporting bodies...Milkha Singh and ex-sportsmen IN all the Babu's and Neta's ..get out. You have made enough..of all the associations special meets and budget allocations. GOODBYE ...WE NEVER NEEDED YOU AT THE FIRST PLACE- DONT NEED YOU ANYMORE

Indian Team in Olympics

As an Indian away from India we would beam with Proudness when we hear that some avenue of the Indian contengent is showing immense potential.
But turning POSITIVE to DRUG test seem to be the main label that the INDIAN players seem to had stamped themselves to.
When we see the medal tally it looks like except for the SILVER for shooting we have accomplished any thing.
Whom do we blame. The selectors/players /the system/government.
Ultimately we seem to be far behind the US, Europe and China.
Overall there seem to be no remose for the errors committed. Nor any sesnse of responsibility.
This pains any Indian living abroad.
Could anyone do something to salvage the situation.
In short we lack patriotism and respect for our nation.
We need to blame ourselves and reap what we sowed."Laziness, insincereityand corruption"

survive..!!!
by deep bajaj on Aug 23, 2004 02:13 AM

hi folks...!

having read this amazing article i have just one thing to say,we simply love our players and are probably the most forgiving people out of the whole wide world..."we are a great country of great people",where players are send to win, they are send on a task,a mission which they must accomplish in order to gain a cheerful welcome home...!!!
so now in a situation where they fail miserably we still find reasons to keep loving them, team which was hopeful of doing"confidently well" is now expected to finish 5th and we are still fine...!!!
though the topic is hockey but the day we stop playing for (points in cricket)converting an accepted humiliating defeat into a less insulting defeat the results are gonna be different.

lets play to win...!!

Build a winning team Merv!!

Hey Merv,
u alongwith Somayya and Carvalho formed the grestest midfielders ever! Kudos to you! Its about time you thought about your next assignment. A billion guys can critique the Indian hockey team but I don't think you should waste your talent being a critic. Can you build a winning hockey team for 2012? I am sure there will be sponsors and support from the Indian community for such an exercise. Think of what the BAT tennis foundation has done for Indian tennis! Good Luck!
