Rathod, the unprojected guy br media & least famous person of our team has done the great work!!!!It's our responsibility to honour him.We should leave the approach of running behind the cricket where on average ,out of 10 times they hardly make india win in 3-4 times ,inspite of that money ,fame, people, media all run behind them

Now, all the Kalmadis and their ilk who never cared for the olympic squad during the torch run, will shamelessly try to project themselves at the cost of all the individual effort that has gone behind the medal. They who were making pomp and show of the torch run with over exposed cricketers and movie stars will try to bask in the reflected glory of the one or two medal winners, fuming venom at those who could not make it. How I wish this tribe vanishes saving our tax payers' money for those who deserve it in terms of training, encouragement and atleast minimum media publicity for the other sports.

Oh! Wake Up Indian Media !
by Vinod on Aug 19, 2004 11:49 AM  | Hide replies

Funny how Major Rathore was left unnoticed so long and Lo !! He wins a medal comes interviews of his kith and kin. The talent was there unspotted and he would have been shunned if he had returned empty handed !

The media has to lay down the hype it creates whenever people succeed and shun when they fail. Major Rathore's success has come of his own blood shed and the sacrifices of his family .Let us just cherish it and groom him full fledged.

Nobody would bother to care a damn about if we win a medal in Olympics once the tri-series at Holland starts !! Cricket is being given unwanted importance victimising other sports. The amount of funds that flow into cricket is just mind boggling !! Who cares where that money goes? And all of a sudden Anju Bobby George is under pressure to win a GOLD for India. Anju and her husband are chasing a dream !! The country's dream of winning gold ! Where are the big sponsors?? Where and how did she train for Olympics? Did the Govt bother?

Let us acknowledge that track and field events are there !!We need state of the art stadiums and gymnasiums!! We need atheletes being encouraged and sponsored. Then medals would come pouring! Jai Hind!

I totally agree with Vinod. Last Olympics it was Karnam Malleswari and this time it was Rathore. Why Indian media don't recognise these talents at the beginning. They are more interested in capturing Sachin Tendulkar's new Adidas campign, Saurav Ganguly's Restaurant Menu or Rahul Dravid's Autobiography.

Wake up Indian media..There's lot to put on the main page if you want to.

Performance of Maj.Rathore - now & next olympics
by VK ANAND on Aug 19, 2004 11:39 AM

'Coming events cast their shadow before'.This olympics event at Athens forecaste that next olympics are sure witness Maj Rathore wining Gold Medal.
It is beyond doubt that this time achievments are solely on account of the help he received from the Indian Army authorities and also his personal hardwork as also the family support he received.

If he was not in the army, he would not have achieved so much.Army did especially for the'Mission the Olympics' and credit equally goes to the Army authorities (which of-course does not have any politician in it as in other sports boards/bodies)

It is high time that sports bodies/boards free themselves from the politicins who spoil the show. Will the politicians serving these either honorarily or otherwise quit the sports bodies in the interest if the country ? If not, responbsibility must be fixed on them to show them way out. They should consciously feel ashamed because they have always failed to manage good achievemnent in the olympics ever since independence. The matter is very serious.

congrats Mr Rathore on your success.
Shame on everyone for being overwhelmed by a single medal.people in India should realise that cricket is not the only sport in the world and there are other sports too in which people can really shine.
sports are the no:1 income generators in all developed nations. They contribute a lot to a country's economy. Why cannot people understand this and why cannot their attitude change and why cannot they encourage sports.our people live by poking a fellow citizens eye,by paining one to please other but never will they learn to work in unity and to help boost the country's strenght of unity.Sports really put the country together but our people donot at all believe in unity,do they care a damn for sports????
