Formula One post Ayrton Senna da Silva

Ten years have passed since that fateful day at Imola in May, 1994. Formula One, since the demise of the great Senna, has seen the rise and the fall of many racers, and the making and breaking of many a record. But in all fairness, I believe it would be correct to say that a man of Senna's charisma and persona has not raced F1 since then. The sheer ruthlessness of his character, his frightening will to win, coupled with his sensitiveness made a combination that has never been equalled, not even by the likes of Hakkinen, Villeneuve and Schumacher. It is completely true that safety is better in F1 now than it ever has been and that drivers are safer racing now than they were back in 1994 and prior to that. It is sad to think that if impeccable safety standards like we have today existed ten years ago, Senna could have made it out alive and so too could Ratzenberger. But we must not lament on the past. We must look to the future. Complacency with regard to driver and spectator safety cannot be allowed. More and more safety features must be perfected and implemented. We must ensure that we honour the legacy of Ayrton Senna by making the sport that was his life and his passion a safer one.
