Churchill Alemao and his family have done a lot to promote the game of football in Goa and to a great extent provided a socio-economic platform to many budding footballers from other parts of India too. It is very unfortunate that we have this present scenario which is not good for football in Goa. By all means Alberto Colaco, the Salgaocars, Dempos and the rest should work to find a solution to keep the football fraternity together. It is true that some referees and linesmen happen to be former players of the big old clubs and the human errors they commit find less sympathy among the loyalists including myself. One way to minimise this margin of error would be to create a panel of referees selected from Mumbai, Goa, Bangalore and Kerala and get them to officiate key and crucial matches involving Churchill, Salgaokar, Vasco and Dempo who enjoy a large support base in the state and also in the country. Moreover they also invest quite a sum every year and they would like to see fair results and experience dignity and earn proper mileage for their efforts. Sanctions and punishments should be well thought out and carefully implemented without damaging the overall name, fame and game .
