dhanraj omitted

as one gets attention rather seeks attention it starts going into ones head..dhanraj been a media attention seeker..crying in public...looking more into cameras than paying attention 2 the certain norms set by the hockey association..eg avoid talking 2 press..or interacting with the third world..if a player starts thinking he is more important then the game..i feel he needs 2 b given a rest...by crying, fighting, comparing himself and blaming a seperate entity game and players like cricket dhanraj shuld concentrate and follow wat the game of hockey wants fm him.. i strongly believe nobody is indespensible..so should dhanraj pillay..

I hope it's not politics
by Akash on Oct 03, 2003 11:08 PM

These selectors, if put on board of selection of cricketers would probably drop Sachin from the squad.... Politics and corruption has taken such deep roots that a small mishap with the coach/manager could axe Dhanraj (the Sachin of our hockey!!!). Probably, the only person Pillay could be compared is the legendary Dhyanchand!!
Please explain his omission!!!!!!!!

Dhanraj dropped?
by Venkatesan Krishnan on Oct 03, 2003 10:07 PM

Dear Sir/ Madam,
The headline, saying 'Dhanraj dropped from squad', gathers attention no doubt, but is misleading. When you get to the article it says, 'Dhanraj Omitted...'. The opening sentence seems to suggest that Dhanraj was dropped despite leading India to a victory at the Asia cup.

All this is misleading to the casual viewer. I suggest a title, 'Dhanraj, Seniors, rested ...', would be more appropriate, given that Afro-Asian Games, is only a pedestrian event. I have noticed, as a pattern, that sensational titles are given to articles in the web, which are entirely misleading. The editorial staff would do better to give more accurate and factual headlines in future, even if they do not flash at you like neon lights.

In my opinion, sensational headlines only make for Tabloid journalism. As a reader, it is my honest observation. Thanks.

omission of dhanraj
by ajay bohra on Oct 03, 2003 08:29 PM

dirty politics in india is not new. to my opinion dhanraj is not dropped for furture engagements but it was only due to the airport schene when the team returned after winning asia cup. it was very clear that coach rajendra singh was not happy with dhanraj due to his popularity, and also media was paying much attention to dhanraj as compared to rajendra singh.

these type of activities or so called decision will discourge the hockey players.my request to the india hockey association is, they should come out of these small thing and better think in the interest of the nation and hockey.

shocking news
by a.raju on Oct 03, 2003 08:16 PM

This is total vindictiveness. Because Pillay tried to speak to Rajindersingh, the IHF Sardarajas would like to bring in who likes to toe their line. Can you imagine this sort of argumenets happening in TV. There non performers are heroes. Here the performer is a non-entity and the coach wants to usurp all the legitimate praise and pride of Mr. Pillay and he suffers for that now.

God save Indian Hockey.

Raju

shocking! are the selectors wanting Indian Hockey to go bad again!
by jayashankar on Oct 03, 2003 07:33 PM

Its really a surprising decision for all hockey lovers. Dhanraj is so good for India. If one honestly plays for India, It is obvious that he may have some verbal abuses either in the field or with coach. These are things that cannot be viewed seriously. If the selectors have thought of this, I am sure he is being treated equivalent to Animal. He does not deserve punishment. He is giving 100% for India when ever he takes the field. so It is difficult to Imagine why he is dropped or rested. Rest is a stupid response to drop players. Mind that the entire hockey match is only for a maximum of one and half hours. I am afraid If a hockey player cannot run for this time, how can you select a team. Dhanraj plays everything for India, he is fit to run well and why the selectors are saying rest instead of dropped. If he is dropped, Indian hockey is dead, No body will support Hockey, and IHF officials need to be dropped. I strongly condemn this kind of attitude from IHF selectors. Bring him back or you will face the axe from the government and the people and It would be no wonder if the entire IHF could be squashed and a new genuine body could be formed. Don't drop any players for dissent.
