Adding 'life' to sports...
by KRS on May 27, 2003 11:59 AM

I agree with the author that sport needs to be packaged well, in order to add vitality, and ensure sustenance in the long run. Test match cricket after the advent of ODIs is a case in point. Both forms of the game have benefitted, as indeed the sponsors and spectators.

Getting the president to root for the top LPGA player to perform on par with the men, is a bit of too much. It betrays the despearation in the ranks of the sponsors and the game's administrators, as well as a lack of respect for the men playing the game.

There was even an opinion in the American press suggesting that the top 3 ladies players, be automatically allowed to play with the men. This is scandalous and insensitive as well. Since Annika finished on 96, must the last 10 men players be 'rewarded' with berths in the ladies tour? That 'golden relegation threat' should spur men to perform better. It might even tempt a few to finish last, to play with the ladies!
