Bhowmick is good.
by Shubhodip Pal Chowdhary on Jul 31, 2003 12:42 PM

Subhash Bhowmick is the only Indian coach who knows and understands modern Football. He is thorughly updated with contemporary world Football at the highest level. He was a great player and was the highest scorer for India with 4 goals when India last got a medal in Football at Asiad in 1970 at Bangkok.

Bhowmick's Boys !!!
by Prayag on Jul 31, 2003 11:31 AM

Congratulations to Mr Bhowmick & his Boys !!!They have done Kolkutta & India PROUD !!3 CHEERS TO EAST BENGAL AS they have made the cricket-crazy nation sit up & take notice.I hope this SWEET SUCCESS would spur the club & Indian Football to reach greater heights!!!

Mr Bhowmick really deserves to be lauded & feted for the GOOD WORK that he has done.As I came to know that it was his plan to hire the services of an I'nal Physio,I was filled with admiration for his courage & foresight. To be able to fight out with the officialdom in India be at Club-level or anywhere for that matter in itself is an emotionally DRAINING
affair which few muster the courage to fight out!Seeing against this context Bhowmick's contribution assumes even greater significance!!

One can only hope that this victory is the BEGINING OF THE RENAISSANCE OF INDIAN FOOTBALL & INDEED INDIAN SPORTS AS A WHOLE !!!!!

Indian consulate officials should be sacked
by Indraneel Chandra on Jul 31, 2003 10:41 AM

Such irresponsible officials should be sacked for not doing their duty for which they are paid. It is a waste of public money. I am sure those idiots must be taking refuge now with excuses like "how much overworked they have been" or maybe "catering to common people and therefore had no time" !

This has happened far too often with Indian sportsmen ( remember 1971 - Ajit Wadekar's team was humilated by the then High Commissioner ? ) and this time the Govt must come down HEAVILY on this pompous and useless entities.

Bhowmick eyes King's Cup
by Soumitra Sankar Das on Jul 31, 2003 10:21 AM

When INDIA won the LG cup last year all ex-footballers of repute from Calcutta, including Mr Bhowmick(who writes in The Telegraph), dismissed it as a success in a B-grade tournament. So I don't undestand Mr Bhowmick's claim about Eastbengali's win in a Bgrade club tournament. I have observed Calcutta football from very close quarters. The problem is that their thinking is limited to EastBengal or Mhunbagan or Md Sporting winning international ties which are very very infrequent. They can't give constructive suggestion for Indian football team except criticism. If football has to do well, then Indian team has to perform well for which the big teams are not bothered or ex-players of repute of mid-70s onward are not bothered. It is actually the big clubs who hamper progress of Indian soccer. I think Mr Bhowmick would agree.

King's Cup
by Kaushik Roy Chowdhury on Jul 31, 2003 10:08 AM

That is a good decision but don't play too much football. Becoz whatever the fitness level but they r human being. Otherwise for domestic or any low profile trophy use the junior (specially under 23 or under 19 ) players or other reserve bench player who r not getting chances regularly. It will boost them to play good football. They will try to play with main footballer. Also may be another Shashti Duley, Tulunga, Mahes, Debjit or Deepak will come out and East Bengal is lucky enough they may get another footballer like Baichung Bhutia.
