Indian hockey has been flattering to decieve once too often. It would be premature to start thinking in terms of winning olympics, although no doubt winning two tournys in a short span is praiseworthy, but one should not get carried awayOur first priority should be to qualify for olympics.

SAHARA PARIWAR deserves all the praise for sponsering the hocket team at the present juncture. No corporate sponsers a team which has no glamor & crowd following, not withstanding the recent victories, it sure takes alot of national pride to sponcer this team. One only hopes that this pride & the financial support will encourage the players to continue present run of victories.

I will difinetly appreciate, writter that European countries are grooming their newcomers by exposing them to International Players. They invite India & Pakistan like countries who overestimate them after winning souch tournaments.
India should take serously such observations.
We should also get ready with our new players, we should not be dependent on single individual in hocky.
Our history says we always forcast single individual after such win & ignore team performance.
We should aim to boost up entire team not a single person.
Winning is always a team effort & result of strong combination.
I wish good luck for my loving country for next tournaments.

we should always plaudit our hockey boys cos despite all the adversaries, they ve always shown the passion & desire 2 play 4 the country and its pride.
v should also remember that a player like Dhanraj is really is "Dhan" 4 the country & still they ve always been treated abysmally.
I represent the sentiment of the whole nation that they should b given better treatment, better than the cricketers.
I hope & pray that this team wins the 4thcoming champions trophy and also the gold in the olympics.
All the best 2 the boys 2 bring laurels 2 the country
God bless u all.

The state of Indian Hockey
by Mahesh on Jul 11, 2003 08:27 PM

The average salary for the Indian Cricket team in 2002 was a whopping $1,894,216 whereas a member in Indian Hockey team get a $20/day allowance when they go abroad for matches. Is this something strange, where we give so much importance for a cheating game, where the so called great players go for a duck or single digit runs for matches together, where the National game receives a modest reception? Shameful Act!!!

Injustice to Juniors
by ALI on Jul 11, 2003 08:20 PM

This headline statement is an under statement of how the whole team, which is mix of Juniors and Seniors are playing.Dhanraj after all is a great player but making a comment that he alone is 50% of the whole is not justified.

U Name me !!
Cheer them up !!
by U Name me !! on Jul 11, 2003 07:49 PM

I wish the Indian Hockey team all the very best in every game they play !!

I have a small feeling in a corner that the statement, "Without Dhanraj Pillay, India is at 50 %", could have been avoided now !! We should remember that we should encourage all the players, since it was the team that won the trophies in Australia and Hamburg !! And though Pillay is an outstanding player, we need not mention it. The whole world knows who Dhanraj Pillay is. He is to the Hockey world, as Sachin is to Cricket world !! But we shud cheer up other players, the young ones who are sweating it out along with them. This statement simply tells them that without Pillay, their collective performace is just 50 %, which is demoralising :-(( Rather if they had said, without Pillay, India could give 100 % and with Pillay, 200 %, THEN .... That would have really fired up all our players and our nation as a whole. :-)) Anyways.. no big probs even now !! Just tot it was needed. Nothing is an arguement here. Just that I wanted to tell all the members of the Indian team that, they have every Indian Support and well as their own self confidence and determination to make it all the way to the Podium in Greece :-)))

Gud Luck Guys !!
