pathetic conditions of our DOORDARSHAN & PRIVATE CHANNELS
by NARESH KUMAR on Jul 08, 2003 08:04 AM

Its really pathetic that our doordarshan is meant for telecasting local or the games which do not have international fame.
same thing applies to these pvt channels also they show even those games which are not internationally recognised but not our hockey.
our national team was playing in international matches & nobody dared to telecat them.
Govt should introspect its policy.

Reclaiming the glory and sponsorship
by Salim Pathan on Jul 04, 2003 06:12 AM

Dear Readers,

I still remember that black day in '82 Asiad when Zafar Iqbal's team was thrashed and hockey went into a tailspin. Inshallah, we shall return to glory. But without sponsors?

How can we expect to win without our team having corporate backing? Hockey has to be televised, marketed and our hockey players honored like the cricketers. Otherwise why would a youngster want to play hockey? National pride can only do so much. Money talks and it is time it started talking for us. Inshallah we shall return to glory.

Indian Hockey Sponsporship
by Rudra on Jul 01, 2003 08:00 PM

When Allen Iverson wears the jersey of Philles for the post match interviews to support his State Baseball team, why not Sachin and Dravid openly support few other games like hockey and tennis, which need financial support in the form of Sponsorship? Atleast on seeing Sachin with a hockey stick or Dravid with a Tennis racquet, people may get interested in other games, when they are playing some international circuits. Cricket and cricketers in India should not spoil and eradicate the other sporting events in the country and they should try to help out the other sport which needs help.

Indian Hockey Team Sponsorship
by Mahesh on Jul 01, 2003 07:53 PM

Lets be practical.. Indian Hockey has performed extremely well in the past and it is performing well right now. The importance given to cricket is not given to hockey, as the viewers for the former is gargantuan, but why should we neglect the growth of other sports in India? A team with 8 Olympic medals, several Asian medals doesnt deserve a Sponspor? Why not the Corporates look at this matter so seriously? Why not the government interfere and persuade things at the right direction for our "national" game?

India is peaking
by Ravinder Kaul Jalali on Jul 01, 2003 12:18 PM

Sir,

From the childhood, I am a crazy Hockey & Cricket fan. I recall all the matches, when India was super hero in hockey game.

It is right time our Govt pays little attention towards this game and players, so that we can come back on the front. This team should be suitabbly rewarded also.

Regards,

Pandit Ravinder Kaul Jalali

Stellar Performances of Indian Hockey
by Arvind Chauhan on Jul 01, 2003 11:14 AM

Dear Team India,

Its a joy to celeberate in your terrific triumphs. Under the able leadership of mercurial Dhanraj and able coach MR. Rajendra Singh the right combination has really struck. I was never able to understand why the captainship to Dhanraj came so late. Anyway better late than never.

Its now within your reach to be amongst the real leaders of the world, a place which always rightly belongs to Indian Hockey. But you have just beware of the complacency. You have got to defend your lead in second half, since this has let you down in so many matches.

Though cricket is my passion but hidden somewhere is unknown loyalty to the National Game. The last I cried when Mr. Jasdev Singh described India as World Champions in the epic final of 1974 Kuala Lumpur World Cup in emotion and passion.

Thats the way boys, keep it up.

TV coverage
by Soman on Jul 01, 2003 11:04 AM

Its pathetic that there was absolutely no TV coverage of these Hockey matches... neither the tournaments in Australia not the recent one in Hamburg.

All that the fans can do is read the match reports in the press.

Sponsor Indian Hockey Team
by Pratik Dutta on Jul 01, 2003 10:43 AM

It's a shame that even after bringing so many laurels for the country in recent times they are facing sponsorship problems. We should all join hands to urge the Indian Corporate sector to come out openly in support of the team that is doing wondefully well in a game where international competition is fierce.
