Don't know what that is based on but it seems to me that if the world's best chess player is needed to defeat a program running on hardware you can buy in any PC shop you can't really talk about not being able to compete with "the versatility of the human mind". This "simple" computer (compared to Deep Blue) is holding its own against a chess master! That means that it can probably defeat 99.999% of the rest of the world population!

Anyway, this whole contest has almost nothing to de with AI, it's just number crunching using some intelligent algorithmes (made by humans) to cut down on the total number of steps to take which is the reason why they can use a normal PC for this contest instead of a custom built computer like Deep Blue.

This proves that no matter how advanced, the computers cannot compete with the versatility of a human mind.
It also shows that AI has a long way to go.
