There are different things going on here... a feeling of alienation also comes from staying away for far too long - the village looks smaller, the houses look different.. What Ali described was also partly people becoming more materialistic. However, this is creating divides uniformly throughout our social fabric not just the Muslim identity - this perverse feeling of alienation also comes from Muslims reading the newspaper and following the mainstream media.
The practice of killing animals is abhorrent to many and the grisly sight of animals dying at doorsteps of your neighbour does create a divide. This is best left to butcher houses which should not have disappeared from the village certainly but maybe the right solution was not sought out by the villagers.
So reporting along these lines and colouring it with a saffron colour is simplistic in my opinion, much like the average villager in our country.
Feelings of all communities matter equally in our beautiful country and the feelings described have always existed in our villages but the subtext from media becomes bolder when a right wing government is in power.
To me the reporting should be agnostic and address the underlying root cause of these problems making themselves apparent.
The text has nothing to do with BJP and yet a deliberate attempt to tarnish them. These guys will never improve, and it is because of sites like rediff that hindus feel alienated.
You may be right in some way...But overall conversation and the conclusion writer has made out of it is just non sense and useless..This whatever the effect he is narrating is the effect of faster urbanization and financial aspirations..Talk and see something good before labeling such weired and destructive thing..
