Its a cultural, Growth and Political moniker. Just like kings do after stabilizing their hold on a country/adversary, Political parties do the same. This is a notice to the world that we have achieved something. Looks like today's politicians are also not answerable. Just because kings did foolish things doesn't mean we have to do the very same foolish things. Sadly, history is repeating itself.
