Conjecture, verification and proof
by palanki narayana on Oct 23, 2018 06:41 AM

Mathematicians have listed 12 problems which are unlikely to be solved. But human ingenuity seems to crack the toughest problems, given sufficient time. Fermat's last theorem is an example. Goldbach conjecture is verified for 3x10^23 numbers. Verification is not proof and the conjecture remains a conjecture. Every year 'solutions' are announced for Riemann problem which prove to be damp squibs. If Atiyah got it right, he deserves a second Fields medal.
