A very timely and in depth article on a neighbouring country of very important strategic interest our Nation .Bhutan and India are deeply enmeshed historically, though against the guiles of China in terms of offering development, all such historical tie wither away , as has been seen in the case of recent events in Sri Lanka and Maldives, where both the Nations have now just managed to pull back from falling into the Chinese sponsored domination of the Government by elected reps who act as agents of China. The new Bhutanese PM's Left leanings must be carefully kept under watch and any signs of cosying up with China must be dealt with immediately by India.Not doing so may see us losing the Siliguri Corridor and may result in the loss of the entire North East.
China for its part will leave no stones unturned to woo the new Bhutanese Government with Welfare and Development Aids and Funds which are so tempting that many Nations in the One Road Belt Corridor have accepted blindly and thereby lost most of their sovereignty to China.To counter this , India may have to preempt China and provide more funds on soft terms to the new Bhutanese Government . The Bhutanese King is totally pro India and Royalty is very much revered in Bhutan... India must ensure that the Bhutanese royalty retains its hold on the masses. This too will entail additional expenditure for India ...but all the financial cost is negligible considering the strategic interest of the Siliguri corridor.
