A self-proclaimed accidental Hindu, and much more disastrously an accidental prime minister of Bharatvarsh Nehru was a dimunitive dwarf against the towering strength and scruples of Sardar whose parallel cannot be found in the contemporary history of this planet.

There was not doubt that Gandhiji had confidence in Sardar Patel. But both being Gujaratis, Gandhiji could not have overtly supported him. Had he supported him openly though deservingly, people would as usual easily misconstrue as nepotism, casting black mark on both these great people.

For some strange reason, Gandhiji had an indefensibly soft corner for Jawaharlal. Bharatvarsh has been paying dearly for bypassing Sardar. History remains history. It cannot be manipulated. Compared to Sardar Jawahar lacked scruples. He was more British than Mountbatten.

The effort to promote the Nehru family at Patel's expense is shameful. But so is the present rulers' exploitation of it to promote themselves.
