Tipu Sultan was a typical war lord of his time. He was fighting with the Zamorins of Calicut, Nizams of Hyderabad, the Marathas and of course the English East India Company. He had committed unspeakable atrocities in all places he over-ran. Congress is trying to garner some "Minority" votes by celebrating his Jayanti.
At least in our family Tipu is considered a hero who fought and died fighting the the British.Incidentally during the TV serial time about two decades ago on Tipu Sultan my sister's son was born and she named him Tipu.We are Hindus and no one told her to do that. It was herb spontaneous gesture to what she considers a hero.So where is the problem ? The BJP fellows are unnecessarily creating controversy where none exist.Such a 3rd rate divisive party I have not come across.

Tipu is the most popular name for pet d0gs in Malabar. Pl search the web and found out the reason. Btw not even we cannot see even a single Mus1im name Tipu any where in Kerala.

Tipu is a cursed name. The person who made that TV Serial suffered in a fire at the Sets. Vijay Mallya who bought his Sw0rd became bankrupt and had to flee from the country.

I just watched a debate on India Today TV and would like to add further. Nearly 1000yrs of history of Hindu-Muslim living followed by British rule, Independence,partition and the present india isa done deal.Now if BJP keeps digging all past wrong doings of the shared history w/o adequately relating them to the context or putting them into proper perspective there will be no peace but only fissures,.tensions and strife. Does BJP understand this ? Also, present has to be seen in the context of good governance and rule of law as per constitution. Tipu sultan was indeed a controversial figure---hero for some and bigot for others but then the context of his times can't be ignored why he acted the way he did.Perhaps a Tipu in 21 st century would not indulge in conversions, killing etc. and once his hero status has been accepted all these yrs in various ways why create unnecessary controversy.Going by BJP standards the entire Moghul period was a dark age for India. But it is not RSS but those ppl who brought freedom for India have set the agenda and constitution which BJP is trying to change now!It is going to be total chaos.

Wrongs done in the past can be corrected in present. There is nothing wrong in it!! The constitution accepted at the time of independence has been altered many times by something called AMENDMENTS and mostly by your cong. Even present day cong is not the the party that participated in freedom movement. It was started by Indira Gandhi as Cong(Indira) in 70's who swallowed original cong using her clout. Its cong who has dug up the past by raking up tipu. What was the need for that??? REAL BIGOTS LIKE YOU won't understand these things i believe...

Many RSS leaders had taken part in freedom movement. How present leaders borne after 1940 would have fought for freedom.. RSS is trying to preserve present agenda n constitution so that it is not changed in future... n to keep identity of Hindustan as nation....

More than 95% of Indians now alive were born after 15 August 1947. They have got nothing to do with the so-called Independence Struggle. Brits had left all colonies in the wake of WW-II.

you have no idea about RSS. Do not get a false impression from malicious propaganda. RSS would not have survived and grown for 90 years if it was a bad organiszation. The other organization with an equally dedicated cadre, namely the Communists have not grown and is struggling for existence. Respect your Hindu roots that is all the RSS expects from all Indians.

The controversies are not without basis. The Commie historians in post independence era with active support of Nehru, have distorted history. Believe me , there are communities in Malabar who only name their dogs as Tipu as a mark of protest against that religious bigot.
If you ask the rest of the states or the rest of Karnataka then no one would be bothered to think of who Tipu Sultan was and why he is being celebrated today. People in Sringapatnam wants to have a time to enjoy and show their power in the name of Tipu and the political parties want to gain mileage.
How it is going to help the state or country? If the same was not celebrated till 2015 what was the need at all in today's perspective except wasting time and money and create new issues. Does Rahul Gandhi have nothing better to do?
