Public money wasted
by Vijay Sahani on Nov 10, 2018 12:52 PM

Listed Companies have no business to spend public money on such non productive and frivolous activities. It is to be noted that donation for the statue is not allowed under CSR rules. It's obvious that this has been done under pressure from the BJP government. Is this what BJP meant by "min government, max governance"?

Statue
by arungopal agarwal on Nov 10, 2018 08:57 AM

What is wrong if money is given for a cause by PSU, it is not going in any individual pocket.
Good to know that BJP has not pressurized any private sector to donate for this statue.
People will realize after 20 years the quantum of tourists visiting this statue. It will be one of the biggest tourist spot in Gujrat and country which will improve economy of locals.

The Statue of Unity during its inauguration in Kevadia
by balajee ks on Nov 09, 2018 08:07 AM

The first thought that came to my mind on reading this "WHY WASTE MONEY ON SUCH THINGS." Sardar Patel is a good man to be honoured and respected. But spending of several thousand crores of money for this project is a waste especially after demonetization. Before undertaking such project the Government should have asked public opinion which could have been a definite 'NO'. Whoever is responsible for this have set a wrong and harmful precedent. The Nation will suffer.

Selfishness and ego satisfaction
by niladri mohanty on Nov 09, 2018 08:03 AM

I hate this craze for building statues for political reasons, selfishness and ego satisfaction By BJP and Narendra Modi. Mayawati did it in UP but came a cropper in the elections. What waste! Instead of building hospital, institutions of learning and education we waste money on statue erection.

Modi's style of grabbing money
by K Bhaskaran on Nov 09, 2018 08:02 AM

The country's topmost auditor had flagged the contributions in a report because the money came from the companies' corporate social responsibility budgets, even though the statue did not qualify under the relevant provision.

That does not bother our PM Modi. He wants name, acclaim and an opportunity that he does things to show how his late leaders served monumental service to the country though country's top most auditor had objection to it. This is nothin but modigiri

CAG must audit the benefit of such efforts?
by Dinesh Kumar Baradwaja on Nov 09, 2018 07:57 AM  | Hide replies

It may be objectionable by CAG, but how will they give audit report on ‘cost benefit ratio’ of correcting the history of nation apart from becoming a pride owner of largest statue in the world? The contributions of PSU in promoting many leaders specially on dynasts of this nation be exposed before this.
It is an innovative effort of Government to demonstrate India’s technology capabilities to build tourist spots focusing ‘Unity Of Nation’.

@Dinesh Kumar Baradwaja:

CAG has not commented on the cost-benefit-ratio. Read the article before commenting under it.

It's meaningless to talk about "Proud ownership of largest statue in the world" as a benefit. How long will this statue last in that No. 1 spot? For the 100 years it will take to recover the huge cost? (The statue itself may not last for long without expensive periodic maintenance considering that it's made of metal rather than stone.) And how can this be an example of "India's technology capability" if the bulk of the work was done by Chinese firms? As for "correcting the history of nation", what correction is needed, and how is the statue providing that correction. Every schoolkid knows about Sardar Patel and his role in unifying India. So where is the need for "correcting history" with such monstrous monuments in the name of "correcting history"?

There are number of Tourist Spots needing improved condition for there real benefit but no action. Tourist spots development is only a slogan without action. It is because we don't have clear and workable philosophy and psychology to improve conditions. Only go for publicity to help known and share commission from agencies. Public is not in mind for improvement of service delivery of permanent nature. Sports event like Asian Games & Commonwealth Games were organised and a heavy expenditure incurred for creating infrastructure at huge cost but most are not available for sports training & development and diverted for personal benefits in one way or other. It is essential to use thse infrastructures for further supporting sports activities and training sports persons for further training and improvement to achieve better results in further games of international level.
