Before the advent of TV and mobile communications, leaders ( mostly congis) used to tour rural areas to charm them with family photos and dances. Gullible rural folk used to get mesmerized by the oh-so royal appearance of the family. SO come what may, they used to vote Gandhi or some one installed by Gandhi family. This is not GRASS ROOTS.
There is no concept of grass roots in India today with so much information available and people knowing lot of stuff about every one.
Bravo to BJP, who has removed congress from Meghalaya too. All corrupts must be shown the path of jail or hanging instead of just defeating them in election. We do not need any such politician.

For long, the Congress was in a position from which they could never imagine that a day would come when another party (BJP) would make so much black money and spend it to purchase their way to power in the nooks and crannies of the country that what the Congress made and spent themselves would look like a pittance !
While the Congress used to steal in hundreds of crores of rupees from the exchequer through croxny capitalists, the BJP is stealing tens of thousands of crores of rupees through that route !

The title is confusing! The BJP or anyone esle couldn't have helped Conrad Sangma "defeat" the congress.. since the Cong wasn't defeated in the first place. They emerged the single largest party! Saheb has changed the meaning of english words used by his spoons.. it seems. Must be something to do with the power of the "computerised mark sheet" !
