The article smacks of 'anti-BJPism' from the word go. The communist government in Tripura was not 'good' by any standards. Instead of 'lifting' the poor and downtrodden to the level of the well-to-do to create 'equality and equanimity', the Communists ( as they have done worldwide) brought the well-to-do 'down' to the level of the downtrodden. The level of living was so abysmally low there, that the people wanted a change very badly. Let the author be atleast magnanimous enough to give the credit to the BJP for moving from around 1% vote share to around 50% in one election. This article is the 'joke of the decade'
The left especially the likes of Prakash Karat,Manik Sarkar...do not realize in which age they are living!They do not realize that communism world over is virtually extinct except in totalitarian regimes like Russia,China etc.So in India the communists must realize that the terms like 'bourgeois' do not have much relevance the way India starting with socialistic pattern of govt.based on democratic polity have gradually over the decades have vanquished Princely states, privy purses,nawabs,zamindars..although job is not fully done when it comes to the 'feudal' mindset thanks to the new class of neo-rich of the ruling elite.So the communists instead of blindly harping on such communist ideology must learn to be reshape and be part of a Indian political system. That is how they survived for over 3 decades in Bengal, Tripura and Kerala.In fact in Tripura the party survived more on the personal image of Manik Sarkar rather on Left ideology but he too needs to change lest his use by date too expires.Frankly I do not see how left can survive all by itself for long w/o active collaboration with other like minded parties.Its future looks bleak.
