This is a temporary affair for BJP winning the election. If CPI(M) agrees for a compromise in joining hands with like minded parties like Congress, for some time, to throw away BJP, it is possible in the long very distant future. C K Balan, Chennai.
Inspite of what this article is talking, it is actually trying to save the drowning Congress by trying to get more allies for it.
The author tries to say that the stand of Kerala unit of CPIM against any sort of alliance with INC is foolish because, that's why CPIM is not in power. Well, this is true if "Being in power" is the only objective. I am happy and proud of Shri. Manik Sarkar, that he adhered to a policy and preserved his integrity and political identity even though he failed to win the majority.
The base concept of this article seems to be that "being in power shall be the sole objective of any political party"; do what ever it takes to win, follow what ever evil methods, be it caste, communal, money, brute force, what ever.. Well, that exactly is what BJP is doing and that exactly was what INC was doing earlier.
If CPIM was to do the same thing as Congress or BJP, then we don't need CPIM as another party, right? They are there as another party and they have what ever following they have now, because they have a set of policies. I am happy that CPIM in Tripura didn't compromise on their integrity. Now, an evil has won. What difference would it make if CPIM had won partnership with another evil? Better fail than win in the wrong way.
I wish the media & political column writers in our country start talking about policies & integrity rather than analysing the tricks and tactics and political smartness. That would bring more quality into

Well said. For far too long India is led by opportunistic political parties without any clear principle. BJP should now clearly spell out whether it is pro-indigenous-religious (that is pro-Hindu/Sikh/Buddhist/Jain)or secular party. I thank Mr. Karat at least for stopping Jyoti from becoming PM. This blue label drinking rich leader of have-nots had screwed up Bengal and would have screwed up whatever left of "Incredible India".

You are right. "Secularism" is a misused and abused word. It has just come to mean anti hinduism. If that is the meaning, then I do not want secularism. I do not want to be second class citizen of India, just because I belong to Hinduism.
All credit goes to Mrs Karat. Hartline approach of CPM's petticoat politburo ensured CPM away from democratic principles of cooperation and tolerance of difference of opinion. For CPM Hindus are fascists and Jihadis are philanthropists.
