Taj Mhal

Ancient heritage is lost due to lack of preservation during 1000 years of invaders occupation.
Medieval structures -erected by alien occupiers - is touted as heritage of the land.
If government had not interfered, and medieval monuments had been left open to public of India, those would have destroyed long back, good riddance.

Charging for monuments
by Sudarshan Nityananda on Jun 21, 2018 11:52 AM  | Hide replies

All this charging must be done intelligently. Most entries in Europe are 15-20 Euros, so that can be a benchmark. But in any large site the customer can be given a choice. For example, to see parts of a fort , a lower charge, but a higher charge for the whole fort. Same with the Taj, if you only want to view it from the gardens.

It is only now that Indians have got the travel bug, so local citizens must be charged reasonably , otherwise there could be a dramatic drop in Indian visits to these places.

Connect entry charges to Consumer Price Index and Average Income for the country.
Connecting to exchange rates of other countries is not correct.
