Mumbai needs to follow BIS codes Strictly
by girish mishra on Jun 14, 2018 07:32 PM

Mumbai has tallest buildings in the country but some strange rules which may be partly responsible for non-extinguish of fires at many places and loss of lives. Building below 70 m in height and less than 500 sqm, allowed with single staircase but not so in Thane which follows NBC (above 15 m height, 2 staircases mandatory). Secondly, I find partial automatic sprinkler protection in all apartments above 45 m in height in gross violation of fire engineering and IS codes-each and every room shall have automatic sprinklers in accordance with NBC and IS15105. Fire compartmentalization is another missing point in superstructure of majority of buildings. We have all the proper design codes but the implementation is lax-from design as well as administrative sides. Fire Audit with videography of key areas is a good requirement at the time of renewal of license as implemented by Haryana Fire Service in Gurgaon.

All norms flouted by all with impunity. All govt work for them. My comment does not matter but they will have a day.

Mumbai and Kolkota are two very sensitve cities in India for fire safety , Iappriciate the efforts fire fighters put in , in Himachal this year six or seven people died fighting fire ,two or three forest officials also perished .

It is to overcome the problem.

Drop Mumbai and Kolkota from Official use.

In all spoken and written forms refer to the cities as Bombay and Calcutta.

Numerology supports the earlier names. Try it and you will see the difference within ten days.
