In one speech he has swept aside the rigid and divisive ideas promoted by the concept of “cultural nationalism”. He has provided a public voice to the Gandhi-Nehru legacy and by propounding its tenets from Nagpur, has made the saner elements in the RSS relook at their own philosophy. Mr Bhagwat has hinted at some changes in RSS’ approach, but the real test would come in seeing how it pulls up the rougher elements of hard HIndutva such as the VHP, Bajrang Dal, Shiv SEna etc. Also, if Mr Bhagwat is really on such an inclusive and constitutional path, he would have to recognize the primacy of the Supreme Court in the Ram temple issue and announce that he will abide by any verdict the Court gives.
