The BJP's Hypocrisy on Corruption
by Chaitanya on Jul 21, 2018 06:53 PM  | Hide replies

The BJP rode to power shouting from the rooftops about how Congress was corrupt.

Here's where they really stand on corruption:

--1--Failed to appoint Lok Ayuktas. No reasons given. They just don't care.

--2--They passed a Bill legitimizing their criminal intake of overseas funds for their parties, and ADDED A BACKDATING CLAUSE TO THE BILL !! Nowhere in the world, and never in modern world history, would any govt have made laws with backdated effect. This must a record of some sorts.

--3--They completely suspended and froze all CBI and ED investigations against corrupt Jaganmohan Reddy of Andhra Pradesh.

--4--They fielded corrupt Yeddyurappa as chied, and corrupt Bellary Brothers of the Mining Mega Mafia fame, as candidates in recent Karnataka elections.

--5--They use incriminating info on other parties corruption to blackmail and control and leverage other politicians and parties. YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh and AIADMK in Tamil Nadu are good examples.

--6--They passed legislation introducing electoral bonds for party funding, but introduced anonymity protection provisions.

--7--They are trying to weaken RTI, which is one of the greatest weapons a common man has to fight or expose corruption.

--8--They've now passed "Bribe Encouragement Bill" to criminalize bribe-giving. This will now discourage bribe victims from filing complaints against bribe takers, and encourage bribe takers.

--9--In "Bribe Encouragement Bill" they've added clauses to protect cor

Absolutely Wrong

In the case of 90% of the people (exception politicians) the compulsion to give bribe due to a COMBINATION OF TWO REASONS:

Reason-1-There's a greedy guy who wants money to do what he is otherwise supposed to do free

Reason-2-(THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT) Taking lawful action against that greedy guy can take DECADES to succeed, and may even NOT SUCCEED. Our Justice Delivery System is so SLOW and so OVERLOADED. Can someone wait for decades to get a driving license or a passport verification done?

For 70 years, our govts have FAILED to SOLVE both these problems (greedy guy, and slow justice delivery) which compel anyone to give bribe.

After neglecting for 70 years to solve the REAL PROBLEM, our wise legislators have now come up with this absolutely unwanted legislation to punish the bribe-giver too. So, now, we will have more people to charge, more cases to pursue and more load on our already overloaded Justice Delivery Juggernaut.

These legislators seriously need to have their heads examined.

Corruption law

What is the sense of passing this bill? Any Govt. has to first define the necessity of making a new law and reason out why the previous law was ineffective and why no convictions could be made. This has to be with statistics, not mere statements.
Having scrapped archaic laws earlier, why is the Govt. adding new laws?

@NG Nileshwar:

I agree with your specific point that any new law or amendment to existing law should have an OBJECTIVE JUSTIFICATION.

But ONE HUGE PROBLEM for our country is that THERE IS ZERO OBJECTIVITY IN PARLIAMENT. I say this because:

--1--Questions asked in Parliament usually lack clarity and specificity.

--2--Answers given in Parliament usually side-step the asked question. The answers also lack clarity and lack specificity. They also lack completeness, addressing only parts of the question that was asked.

--3--No one cares about the problems --1-- and --2--. Neither the person asking the question, the person giving the answer, the Speaker, or the rest of the legislators. None of them care about OBJECTIVITY OF PROCEEDINGS.
