Who was holding the bow and where went the arrow!
Who was in the helm of the country, how wise was the leader and who influenced the leader! How sincere and matured was their foreign policy.
If they harmed the country, made it 'Apang' (handicapped), 'rudali' would not be the solution. Deshkeeizzatkhatremeinhaijanaab, do something, o present government, and its Captain.

S/AGREEMENT GOOD ENOUGH PROVIDED INDIA IS FIRM
by damodaran mohan on Jul 19, 2018 05:27 PM

It is always tempting to for future rulers more so when they are of different party to blame past rulers on every past ills. With a person like Modi in the saddle this tendency only gets worse. In regard to Shimla Agreement it is indeed a very comprehensive agreement except that the LOC could have been defined as International border. After so many years it is difficult to make a judgement but the fact remains the successive govts. more so the PMs like Vajpayee,MMS and Modi have failed to stick firmly to the terms of Shimla agreement instead trying to appease Pakistan for various political reasons and in the process complicating things. If only India and the PMs had stuck to Shimla agreement of not giving in to any new negotiations or demand rather than cutting off relations than Pakistan could have been brought on line. The U.S. arming Pak against India and looking the other way to cross border terror further complicated things.Even now India can salvage k-situation by sticking firmly to Shimla agreement and virtually cutting off all relations with it until Pak accepts K as part of India and stops meddling into K. Parallely be prepared for and challenge Pak to take K fighting a war with India should it so desire.

We again lost a golden opportunity to settle the Kashmir issue once for all. There were number of options to deal more firmly with Pakistan who declares 1000 years of fighting. This is what the present day institutions in Pakistan is continuing and will do until the get their revenge. From Prithiraj Chauhan on words we were always magnanimous to our enemies who stabbed us at the back at opportune moment

Created by Kashmiri separatists backed by PAK, only Kashmiri are to resolve it whether they need interference of security forces or want to live peacefully as Integral part of India.

Our hands were tied

"Dhar has written that she may have been mindful of what the Soviet position was: That Bhutto should not leave Simla empty handed."This is true enough. We had our hands tied:be it in Tashkant or in Shimla.Let us leave at it.Let us not dish out excuses. She might have carried further but for urging from the then U.S.S.R. (as reported)to capture P.O.K.But the international un dercurrents were in play keeping India at bay.But we must improve economically. Are we going ahead? How can we be militarily strong if between 1980s and now the per capita income of Sri lanka is twice that of india and of Indonesis is twice that of India in 2012 itself R.Ponnambalam

""Our Hands were tied, In Tashkent and Shimala""
Why.
Because we are not Permanent Member of U N Security Council.
Why Not
Because we we not Nuke Power when UNSC was finalised.
Why Not
Because Nehru ensured that.
So much for Futuristic Vision- All Truncated.
Now we have Nukes, and No Memebership of Permanent UNSC.
Hold and roam.

retrospective angst”. No retrospective angst at all.We fell down in day time into the well which we were careful enough to avoid falling down there in Night One must understand the enemy, should not underestimate his AMBITION&RESOLVE.When Md. Ghori invaded the second time that Indian King Failed to understand his Resolve to attack again.Nowhere in history a religion has come about claiming that they do not inter dine ,do not intermarry and all that jokes and telling that they were a Nation No castes even intermarry in India and it was known to Md.A.Jinnah as well as to the then British. If he had said that one’s hero is the enemy of the other he clearly said that one of them didn’t belong to this land India.Even after the extent to which Pakistan went for ,in the then E.Bengal, what the world called GEONOCIDE and RAPE OF BANGLADESH, if we didn’t understand the RESOLVE of PakiSTAN, the remnant STAN of the lineage of Taimur’s Babur and had forgotten all the rapes and Torture that India suffered under the Mughal calling it tolerance and let Bhutto go unrepentant for Bangladesh RAPE, and didn’t remember what Maulana Usmani said in 1946 that Pakistan would pave the way for the triumphal return of Islam as the ruling power over the entire subcontinent and had not correlated the attack on India by AyubKhan after having said (as reported)Prez.Kennedy that Pak. will take the palce of india after Nehru, we deserve what we have R.Ponnambalam

Admire the loyalty!
by Venkatesa Prabhu on Jul 18, 2018 05:03 PM  | Hide replies

Indira Gandhi did NOT want ZA Bhutto to return empty handed and with humiliation ... so we are continuing to pay the penalty 46 years later ... How cleverly has Jairam Ramesh created a scenario 46 years later ... leaves it open saying that no one will know who prevailed on whom ... loyalty needs to be saluted. India can suffer but ZA Bhutto should NOT be humiliated ... first the father takes a settled issue to UN and later the daughter throws away the victory on our platter ... and Jairam Ramesh does a neat whitewash job.

India had barely been able to fight in East Pakistan and was in no condition to fight the much harder fighting that wold be required to completely finish off the enemy in the west.

It is no use blaming Indira or anyone else. They at least salvaged a little bt of international approval for the Indian action of talking to Pakistan.

Strategic actions cannot be founded on wishes or ideals, but must always be founded on realities.
