great article. Partly inaccurate. Only marathi who was successful as a rebel freedom fighter was Shivaji during the Mughal raj. His fighters mistook him for Lord Shiva as they fought the Mughal warriors in his name, shouting \"Har har Mahadev\"

kalinga war is not about gorkhas, perhaps article writer is not aware of proper history.it's about PAIKS.PAIK WARRIORS(the warrior clan)of Odisha fought bravely against the british in the early 19th century.

War fare was chiefly business oriented and ranks of warring armies on either side had persons across caste, religion divides, as is repeatedly brought forth regularly these days...
Try as hard as they wish to brainwash the masses, instead the powers-that-be would do well to concentrate on sab KA saath Sab KA Vikas, ipo dividing Indians

As usual, I always enjoy reading the columns of Col.Anil Athale.
To the list of successes of Asian powers over the European powers, please add the Battle of Colachel or Kulachal which was fought on 10 August 1741. The Dutch forces were defeated by the brave king Marthanda Varma of Travancore.
