33 lakh sq km of territory, has a population of 130 crores.
The African continent, minus the Sahara and the Kalahari deserts, is more than 150 lakh sq km in area but has just 87 crore people !
India is far and away the most population dense large place on earth.
And life is already becoming unsustainable with fast shrinking sources and supply of drinking water, cultivable land, grazing land, forested areas and clean breathable air !
And the pace at which such terminal degradation of the ecology is taking place has picked up speed ever since big rapacious interests have been let loose in the last 25 years in the garb of liberalisation and development !
Unfortunately, the sections of the population that are worst affected by such degradation of the Indian environment - the lower middle classes and the poor - are yet to realise how their interests are being subverted by this chant about development !
The entire Powai to Borivali stretch (Including SNGP) used to be like a very pleasant hill station as recent as 20 years ago. Aarey milk colony was like central part of NY city. EVen in mid summer, that place used to be like Ooty of sorts.
Real estate cancer spread and destroyed that area beyond recognition. Even areas such as Kanheri caves was not spared. Human spread like moths all around that area completely destroying the eco system beyond repair.
The IIT campus is the only pristine forest left of what once was the most beautiful landscape in the country.
