by R Chakravarti on Feb 17, 2018 10:38 AM

Yesterday a TV channel had a report on forest destruction at the source of the Cauvery. They showed some big buildings in that area!

Not so fast
by Sudarshan Nityananda on Feb 17, 2018 07:35 AM

Bengalureans need not celebrate so fast after this Cauvery verdict. The State Govt plans to allow some 50 tree species to be felled freely without any permit . This disastrous measure alone will enable all officials and their tree-mafia pals to reduce Bangalore to a sandy desert city in 20 years. All the waters of the Cauvery will not then save the city from it''s terrible climate fate.'

supreme court decision on Cauvery water.
by skaviswara on Feb 16, 2018 01:07 PM

a win win verdict for all the four concerned states. But the validity of the verdict should have been 10 years instead of 15, since according to the study reports Cauvery river basin inflow is depleting year after year.

What will happen if rainfall fails & tamil nadu demands the same share it gets in a normal year? buddu_mera_beta read the judgement carefully & then comment.

The judgment is quite lengthy (hundreds of pages). It probably covers these points.

TN is so adamant.
by chanakya maurya on Feb 16, 2018 12:34 PM

It may indirectly defy the orders coming from the top.

Inviting perhaps Rashtrapati Shaashan in TN.

Distress water sharing formula
by Satheesh KR on Feb 16, 2018 12:18 PM

Not sure whether distress water sharing formula is considered in the final judgement or not. It is a must as releasing water during March to June period is practically impossible when monsoon fails and no water in the dams.

GOOD RELIEF
by SREENIVAS on Feb 16, 2018 12:08 PM  | Hide replies

Finally some solace! This judgement has come after Karnataka was forced to give water even the dams were almost dry is like closing the stable after horses are bolted! Whether the monthly quota is removed or not we have to see, if monthly quota is not removed then this judgement is of little significance

Karntaka received better rains Tha Tamil nadu delta region . i Would Squarely blame the TN politicians disunity in this regard
The judgement is highly disappointing

and one welcome judgment is no state can claim 100% ownership on cauvery . Which is definitely Slap on the Face ofo persons like vattal Nagraj and his affiliated organisations

Politicians from both the states are bad so blaming one state politician is not correct. They should have found solution to this problem long back instead they were busy doing politics with cauvery water issue.

Deeepak - in a river water dispute a lower riparian state will always suffer (bcos upper riparian will and can always block water as per its whims and fancies ) .This is a rule all over the world .

Hi Sreenivas,
If you get a chance, please visit the Kaveri delta from Trichy to Kumbakonam. You will realize how much water is required for the farmers there. Just because Kaveri originates in Karnataka, it cannot take undue advantage of the same.

Baranidar , if something belongs to your house & you are asked to share it compulsorily with your neighbour , will you do it . A spirit of give & take is needed, especially as the subject is water & it is the source of life for everyone. So first ask politicians to behave in a professional manner instead of road side thugs , which all of them are.

Far more tamilans are in karnataka than kannadigas in tamilnadu.many times more.So tamilinas in karnataka consume much higher share of water alloted to karnataka than kannadigas in tamilnadu.

Deepak -srilankan tamils are hindus if you already dont't know.. FYI-TN has absolutely no help from centre for last 50 years (from 1965) as they opted for only regional party rule. Neither Cong or BJP has any interest to support TN and left it on its own...... to prosper....
