what is the fuss about Rafale Deal
by Nikhil Dharod on Feb 12, 2018 07:49 PM  | Hide replies

As usual most people here venting their lack of knowledge. The "experts" simply do not know the basic facts of Rafale deal.

How on earth can you compare a "Notional" Deal of Congress with this concluded deal. Congress' deal never happened.

In present deal price of per aircraft is marginally lower than the notional deal of UPA. The additional amount is for the modernised weapon system which was not the part of earlier notional deal. Hence deals are not comparable.

In earlier deal there was no provision for logistical support from Rafale, whereas in the present deal Rafale shall provide technical support so that at any time 75% of the fleet shall be operational. Again this deal is not comparable.

In earlier deal there was no transfer of technology as falsely claimed, but manufacturing under Licence.

Anil Ambani's company's contract with Rafale is purely between two private operators, Govt has no control on the same. People have to understand that the basic structure of the deal is different than that of earlier deal, in which there is no role for HAL, as the jets are procured "off the shelf" unlike earlier.

First Rahul should answer that why did the UPA did not finalise the deal for 10 long years despite the Airforce facing acute shortage of aircraft.
Their DF AK Antony himself did not clear the deal due to lack of trust. His did not trust his own party's deal

Very easy for Rahul to question the deal but the difficult truth is his party let

Piri, I really pity you.

Have you even read the article and the dates mentioned therein.
This skeleton is out of Congress' proven corruption cupboard.

It UPA who had rejected the Eurofighter.

Nikhil, I pity you greatly !

I am not a supporter of the Congress. Rather, it is my conviction that there is little to differentiate between the BJP and the Congress in terms of economic policies and in terms of corruption !

However, in this case, you have not read properly enough !

The Eurofighter ended up L2 in the global tender floated by the UPA. And so, it could not have been chosen at all !

Simple enough !

And the UPA, whether due to previous scams or due to the insistence of then defence minister Antony (who was known to insist on procedures regardless of the urgency of procurement), entered into negotiations with the L1 bidder Dassault to improve the terms further from what the company had quoted. The primary aim of the negotiations was to reduce the price further from the Rs 80000 crores approx that was quoted for outright purchase of 18 Rafales and manufacture of 108 Rafales in India by HAL with technology transfer by Dassault. Negotiations went on from 2013 (when the commercial bids were opened) and they were still in progress when the UPA lost power in 2014.

As soon as the Modi govt came to power, for reasons best known to it, the negotiations were called off and the tender was cancelled. It was at this stage that Airbus approached the Modi govt with a reduced price that this writer says was even cheaper than that of the L1 bidder Dassault.

Since the tenders were cancelled, the Modi govt was at liberty to consider the offer by Airbus !

rediculous and stupid reason -- If wrongly procured and fines are later imposed - that by itself is the best reason to avoid typhoon and in no way its can be called lower cost ! . ! Rafale deal was done and decided technically and on sound logic by experts , so doubt about that .. Right from the MIRAGE- times the french fighters planes have been much superior ..

The problem with congress is that they could not complete the deal after negotiating for 8 years. How can they compare the price prior to 8 years today ? The price of the most of projects under UPA at center and the state after delay generally get a hike of double the amount of original bid. The technology is get improved day by day and one can not compare the prize of fighter plane 8 years back with the fighter plane with latest improved technology and other factors attached thereto.
