Delhi HC fines media houses who revealed Kathua rape The Indian Penal Code law provides for jail term of two years with a fine.It is understood that revealing victim's Name is an offence! The bench also directed that wide and continuous publicity be given to the statutory provisions of law regarding privacy of victims of sexual offences and punishment for revealing their identities.

Section 23 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences law lays down the procedure for the media to report cases of sexual offences against child victims and Section 228A of the Indian Penal Code deals with disclosure of identity of victims of such offences. What was more important than revealing identity is the execution of the culprits (Perpetrators of the crime)

Fine is not enough, nor jail.
Actually, there telecast/broadcast/printing should be stopped for a week; then only there will be no repetition. Making such mistakes should not be cost-effective.

The issues came to such prominence only because of media flashing the image of the girl, else it is hard to believe that we have such giants among us. If surviving I can understand that for harassment over public curiosity can be serious concern.

People who revealed the name of the victim should be prosecuted. Media in INdia seems to be going berserk and without any sanity.

And the perpetrators of the crime should be charged and given exemplary punishment without delay. That is more important than name revealing.
