Author, the present regime in Maldives overthrew an elected govt using military and its Islamic majority to justify it. The undemocratically deposed president Nasheed and india have their right to interact and Nasheed to deplore illegal control of judiciary by the dictator. Why should badrakumar support dictator and call indian support to Nasheed a intervention. If Nasheed allowed China to have a embassy, then clearly India is not interfering in Maldives. Only the author means Pakistan, China support to Maldives dictator as genuine and India hosting Nasheed as interference. Bhadrakumar views illogical.

Has anyone noticed that- in our neighbourhood- religion is also a binding force, like language, rivers and land-stretch is? India is bound by religion, though languages are different. Bangladesh, Pakistan have similar language, but religion is different. Bangladesh and Pakistan had just one binding force- religion. Land stretch, rivers, language were different, so they separated. India and Nepal have common land stretch, rivers, religion. Only language is different, so they remain Visa Free. Male , Sri Lanka have have different language, religion, land stretch, rivers. So these are separate nations.
