Private Sector Defence Equipment Manufacturers
by Ravindra Rao on Jul 16, 2018 10:32 PM

The main issue with India is everybody does "Copy Cat Research". The PSUs are like cows whose milk & cream the politicians grab and give the dung to the private sectorand so they will always favour PSUs.
The private sector needs to develop new defence equipment suitable for India. They need to invest in R&D and develop new products. The private sector guys behave like beggars sitting outside a temple waiting for cash rich visitors to throw away 100 rupee notes.
The private sector guys need to stop warming their seats and get into bold action by exploiting the big talent pool in the country instead of depending on drawings from foreign countries.
Hungary as a country is smaller in size than Tamil Nadu and its population is much less than that of Tamil Nadu and yet they have 14 Nobel Laureates whereas India has only 4 Nobel Prize winners and all 4 got the prize for the work done abroad. The ubiquitous Ball Point Pen was invented by an Hungarian.
One single Chinese company Huawei has more patents than what the whole of India has since independence.
Will the private sector wake up and behave like technologists instead of behaving like petty shopkeepers.

Compete in delivery and execution

Government should split large orders into half and give one part to private shipyard and other to PSU. The final cost of delivery and adherence to schedule should be compared between the two and then a final decision should be taken on whether the current approach of lowest tender winning the order should continue to be followed or not
