The question is why the govt agencies did not bother to provide minimum infrastructure at all these local stations in Mumbai. I love to visit Dadar station again and again. I think even Africans will not let it that way for several decades.

Instead of investing in bullet-trains for elite class, why don't the government focus on enlarging the existing infrastructure like widening of foot overbridges etc. which will benefit the common suburban travellers? When trains arrive simultaneously and commuters alight both on western & central line platforms and hurry up to reach the FOB to make switchover to the other line, the commotion is imaginable. Ministers and babus have to be present at the site to experience this. Otherwise they will not wake up from their slumber. Jai Maharashtra.

The dignity of millions is being sacrificed to safeguard the comfort and luxury of a few. I agree instead of all the investment in Bullet train ...improvement of the suburban trains in all cities - Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai will improve the lives of the human capital of these cities and also contribute to their productivity and quality of life.
High Review Committee, appointed in 2012 to recommend key measures to drastically improve the safety record of Indian Railways, articulated several major steps.
Prime among them are
1. Setting aside a fund of Rs. 1 lakh crores exclusively for the purpose of investing in enhancing and augmenting railway safety (both in infrastructure and in manning key safety related posts) over a period of 5 years
2. Setting up of an independent Railway Safety Board with statutory status to recommend, oversee implementation and audit safety measures.
The Kakodkar committee referred extensively to various recommendations and studies of several earlier safety committee investigations.
The 5 years recommended by the Kakodkar committee have just been completed. But there is still no sign of the independent Railway safety authority.
Neither has the Rs. 1 lakh crores worth of investment in enhancing and augmenting rail infrastructure for safety come anywhere into sight !
Ironically, Rs. 1 lakh crores will be spent now over an expensive toy called bullet train !
India has always been the worlds biggest boondock. And it will continue to remain so !

I have been travelling in Train since my college days. I am 63 now, still I prefer train. Advantage - I can stick to my schedule. Road travel in Mumbai, you can never reach any place on time. Cost - It is the Cheapest mode. East west connectivity- very good. With these advantage 80% of Mumbai population travel by train. In the past few years, I could see marked changes in the infrastructure in stations - Indicators with time countdowns, More FOBs , Better frequency, 12 and 15 car trains to mention few. However stations like Parel and Dadar PL no 1 has deteriorated. There is one Exit in Parel and two in Dadar. Both the platforms are narrow, yet there are vendors on both platform. FOBs are occupied by Hawkers. Railway administration should plan for additional FOB in both the stations. In parel one FOB is necessary from central of platform no 1 to the west . Old and new fobs should be connected at western rly end also an exit straight at west and east end. Any delay, I can foresee, people falling on to the track and being runover enmass. In Kurla the CSTend Bridge on Platform no 7 to be remodelled and prove both side exit. Dismantle the Connecting bridge on CST end to the ticket counter as the new bridge serves the connectivity. Hope Railways turn proactive and avoid the loss of life.

Mumbai city is one of the prime mascots of the worlds biggest shixt hole ((India) !
This shixt hole is crammed with people and those people live in penury, deprivation and extreme exploitation.
Yet, the very same people who suffer such deprivation all their lives are also so stupxid as to keep idolizing the big time thieves in the country who make life such a big ordeal for them !

Kali stinking komaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaali, don't say your usual nonsense about Mumbai. Your state has maximum rate of unemployment and the majority of people of your state comes to Mumbai for a job and settle here as they don't find their future and prosperity in the state they belong. oye Kaliye, first ask your favourite party to make enough job opportunities in your state so their migration to other states can be stopped.

What happened today was tragic. The loss of innocent lives is a lesson for the authorities to wake up. Please dont waste time on setting up an inquiry commission, just speed up widening narrow bridges and staircases. Look at providing more and better passenger friendly ameneties. More trains as well as AC trains are welcome, but also look into crowd management at select core stations.
