.....the author slyly inserts the stalinist factor, misleading those who are not familiar to the remarkably 'democratic' functioning of BJP. As far as being the 2nd most or 3rd most "powerful" person is concerned , BJP is above power-politics.....all stalwarts of BJP in the States and the Centre are singularly focussed on Governance....only Governance....no power politics, please, in my view , BJP doesn't suffer from the disease that led everyone from the peon to the president of a particular brigade driven by politics of greed and corruption shamelessly ended up doing "jee hujoori" to an italian housewife who rendered them all incompetent and powerless in the end ! The author of the article has a stereotyped way of thinking and would find it difficult to understand BJP's remarkable "power centre" which is found not inside the party....but out of it.....the people of the Nation.

Sadly we live in a time where winning elections by employing any conceivable trick - poaching of legislators , introduction of money for allurement & intimidation etc are extolled as smart political management & resourcefulness. Mr Shah has honed these tricks to perfection. Not just the political land scape of the country , the quality of politics itself has changed in Modi - Shah era. Populism over takes prudence.

This writeup by Shekhar Gupta smells of prejudice right from the word go. He is a known stooge of the Congress, and we cannot expect anything better from him.
