Presindent of India must be very clear in articulating his speech. He should be very careful and he must have his briefing before delivering his speech
In fact, British did Indians a favor by eliminating TIPU. British rule ensured great religious freedom. Tipu tortured HHindus as well as CChristians, in the most brutal way.

Tipu Sultan died a heroic death fighting the British. heroic or not is left to those who saw it.He fought the British for his Kingdom as DID HE INVADE THE ERSTWHILE TRAVANCORE COCHIN STATES(Now kerala)To enlarge his Kingdom AND COULD NOT DEFEAT THAT STATE.This used to be taught in Class 5 in Travancore cochin state history To call him a FREEDOM FIGHTER like other freeedom fighters is an insult to real freedom Fighters R.PONNAMBALAM

The country needs a good opposition party.Congress has to revive. It Must understand the damage it did to Indian economics letting go to top 0.1% Earners (of India a higher share of the total growth than the bottom 50% ( earners of india)(12%versus 11%) and to the top 1% a higher share of total growth than the middle 40% (29% as against23%) during 1980-2014web site WID.world .For doing this Cong .was doing communal politics calling the second biggest religion as minority religion and pampering that" we are130 million strong) as this site once said and leaving the minority Jews.there are 7 religions in India not only the religion that came through babur sword r.PONNAMBALAM

The communal card play started being played from 1888 in Meerut and continues. The" Mohemedan Nation" and "we are separate"Make yourselves her friends, and prove to her"(British)" that your friendship with her is like that of the English and the Scotch" as propagated in Meerut in1888 was not by vote bank party .R.PONNAMBALAM

By that logic every one of our kings fought for their own kingdom . The concept of India was never in existence during AShoka, Krishnadevaraya , Akbar or Aurangzeb's rule. Why then do we learn about them in our history.
To dwell upon Tipus battles in kerala and Kodagu is to look at only one aspect of his career. That way, the Cholas and the Vijayanagar kings fought their neighbouring kingdoms too. Are they to be vilified ? Is Tipu being vilified just because he happened to be a Muslim ?

Negative, we don't need to vilify them, then again we don't need to place them on a pedestal and call them a Patriot. Tipu was no patriot, no more than Krishna Devaraya. So while Devaraya was a great king Tipu is not in the same class. His father however was a great ruler.

You put it very well, my compliments. The nation needs to actually identify its real and imagined heroes, Tipu Sultan was no patriot the mere fact that he fought the british does not make him one. There is more to the making of a patriot than merely fighting the British. By the same breath neither were Bahadur Shah or Tantya Tope patriots.

Why did Jhansi rani Laxmibai fight a battle with the Britishers ? She too wanted to save her kingdom, which the Britishers were taking away by stealth. So on the same grounds she too must not be called a freedom fighter. Atleast Hyder and Tipu fought the Britishers and were the first to defeat them, and had not the Marathas and Nizam sided with the British, Tip would have won the battle in which he died.
