Very good and concrete step by SC, It should be banned though out India. Don't connect to any religion, every religion people put crackers to celebrate. Just stop the cracker factory..
In many reports by various environmental scientists, most countries, especially heavily populated and very corrupt ones such as India, have gone beyond the point of no return into terminal decline in environmental sustainability !
Vital life sustaining features of the earth such as water availability, quality of air, stable climate, fertility of soil, natural checks on pest population, natural checks on pathogen population, etc are already compromised almost beyond redemption and becoming further and further adversely affected every passing year.

SC has banned selling of crackers in Delhi, but not firing of crackers. If u go as per its directive,we can buy else where out side Delhi limits and fir crackers. Some on should file a review petition in SC against this directive.Diwali with out crackers is meaning less,at the most you can restrict its usuage with timings.
Pollution in Delhi is not going to come down by merely banning fire crackers. The real culprits are other: poor public transport system with dependency on private vehicles. The fare increase in metro will further increase the same. (ii) Lot of construction activity. The metro construction / highway / road widening has increased dust particles quantity immensely. (iii) The Municipal corporations /DDA have not bothered at all to improve plant fruit bearing trees saplings traditional deshi trees and rather have planted plants trees like Alstonia (Devils Tree) which worsened the air quality rather than purifying it. Neither Supreme Court nor NGT bothers about it or issues directions for the same. Court also should think of alternate means of livelihood for affected class.
Why ban only till Nov 1. Shutdown the fire cracker companies itself. Why is everyone only against Hindu festival celebrations? Is the quality if air very good during remaining months? Is fire cracker the only root cause for AQI degradation? Is the environment very friendly during other community's festival celebrations? Biased opinion.

Noise ban and now fire ban. Why not there is a qualitative assessment on the reason behind pollution. Why not nothing is being done on vehicular pollution. I can guess the reason of very strong lobby behind this. The weaker section bear the brunt.
