by namakhalaalmulla on Nov 11, 2017 11:28 AM

Yes, small scale desi baniya companies will shut down. They will be overtaken by multinational. Tell me what social welfare these baniya people have done to the country except siphoning crores of rupees outside country thru' hawala. Do we need baniya's in our country? what is their contribution to society?

The public opinion, Cong.pressure and Guj. Polls are reasons.
by Ahi Sen on Nov 11, 2017 11:24 AM

The public opinion and sufferings, pressure from Congress party and unfavorable reaction of voters in next Gujarat state election have forced the NDA government to review the GST rates. Neither thee FM nor the PM were humble enough to admit the real reason for this climb down. welcome the partial reduction in rates of taxes but it requires further reduction to ease the burden on common citizens and poor peeoplee.

GST Implementation
by India.Today on Nov 11, 2017 11:11 AM  | Hide replies

Most of the media houses are celebrating that rates of some of the items were changed in GST and hence, called it simplification. When the rates are changed, can it be called simplification, as, in fact, the real problem was with regard to lacuna in procedures and systems and its implementation.
In fact, people were facing difficulties with GST with regard to its procedures and issues related to implementation. The sellers/manufacturers are not concerned with GST rates because after all, it has to be borne by the end user, i.e., general public. Since there was no significant change in its procedures/systems, we fail to understand what is there to spare so much of time, as it amounts to wastage of time of public as well. Had there been significant changes to GST systems and procedures, which results in making it stakeholder friendly, then there is something to rejoice.
In fact, when we implement a law, it is likely to have flaws and gradually amendments are made to tune it to the convenience of all. We see variation in fuel prices daily. What is there to rejoice on this. Its just a normal economic activity and there is nothing to boast about it. The administration also must consider this aspect and it would be in the interest of the public if such events are not taken as an opportunity for celebration.

So far as this very GST rates are concerned, everyone would recall that when the GST Bill was presented in Parliament, Congress and some other parties had categorically advised the government to cap GST rates around/below 18% and nothing to be charged above that. That time, the arrogant concerned persons in administration did not heed to the advice and created a 28% GST rate and burdened the general public. This has not only caused price rise, it made life miserable for the people as well.
Now, when the reality was faced, BJP was forced to work on the rates and bring it down to 18% or lower rates. What is there to celebrate on this? The damage had already been done with higher GST rates and we are suffering because of price rise.
