There are more emergency situations than building Railway bridges. Railway technical team can handle bridge building. Out LOC along Pak is so porous, terrorists enter and leave at their will. Instead of plugging those loop holes, both the Defence Minister and Army Chief are engaged in other duties. Possibly they expect Railways to man the border.

General Rawat is perfectly right
by aam admi on Nov 10, 2017 10:09 AM  | Hide replies

Army during peace time, should be creatively engaged in Civil Society's welfare. It creates strong bonding between the two.
This is standard norms.
Lethargic and frustrated opposition mainly Congress is these days criticising blindly every move, including GST, though on the other hand Rahul Baba claims that they are the mentor of GST. Leadership of Congress is unaware of creative criticism, they are busy in creating chaos. That is why they are criticising this move too .

WE don't mind other lethargic deptts who pass on their responsibility to Army? Would they pick up Arms even in war like crisis? If not, why Army in their service when they really don't have an alternative engagement? Mr aam admi, would you go to war if army fell short of manpower?

First Responder

I agree that we should be the first responder to the distress/help call from the civil authorities. And I know that we have been so in the past.It is the duty of every citizen/organisation to come forward for the help. But the Irony is that when it comes to reward the defence forces,ALL ORGANISATIONS,sulk away giving lame excuses. And our so Babus make it sure that the Defence personnel are deprived of the legitimate dues and try to switch the benefits towards themselves.
The decision taken by the Chief is correct but he should not let them allow to make it a 'Chronic'habit.

W this really a distress call where relevant deptts were incapable of handling situation? The what is the justification in keeping Army below in precedence to these incompetent authorities.

Civil help by Army
by VK Aggarwal on Nov 09, 2017 10:34 PM

It is commendable that Army is helping civil admn. in emergency and its potentiality has been recognised. But one fails to understand why Rail admn. denied any failure and stated the stampede a work of some bad elements. Ultimately rail has accepted the problem and failed to fix same at its own but requisitioned the help after losing a long time and recognising its failure.
Rail must learn from Army the spirit of service and speed with which they have accepted the job. Rail must develope its own capabilities in the same lines.

Call Army for banking sector also
by R ponnabalam on Nov 09, 2017 05:41 PM  | Hide replies

"army should be training for war, not making up for the inefficiency of civil agencies.".YES! YES
If the CIVIL AGENCIES are incompetent and army is called in why not in banks also? The banks have shown their incompetence by building a mountain of 8 Lakh crores unrecovered loans. The Govt. is declaring that it cannot Govern. It cannot manage AIR INDIA says it can manage INDIAN AIR FORCE.It doesn't have Civil Engineering agencies after 70 years of Engineering Education in India. All those who managed construction Engineering for so many years must be called into question.R.Ponnambalam
