We attend to elections
by R ponnabalam on May 11, 2018 04:46 PM

Restore water bodies which out much praised administrative set up has closed. They may not be big rivers but rivlutes and ponds. We have paved streets with tiles resulting in lack of ground water seepage back.Ground water level has become affected badly All these need urgent need. But in a country where the Prime Minister has no priority for arranging to respect practices of International riparian rights we cannot expect this.Mrs.Gandhi had told "Don't we have any more elections to win" when told of wanchoo commission report implementation. Now the S.C had been told that P.M. is busy in karnataka elections All Natak.R.Ponnambalam

Open air had its advantages :)

when the folks go out in open to relieve themselves, they don't waster so much water, they'll manage with the leaves, etc :) Suddenly there is a shitload of people using water for washing, when they don't have water to drink!

Which leader can manage such large scale misuse? Time to ban eating in excess and even better, limit to one shakahari meal a day. Take deep breath and then leave it every so often -inlet and outlet should be same :)

How acute is India's water shortage

No need to estimate. A country which exceeds the population of China, though 1/3rd of its size, a country that has no discipline to control population, having high density, a country where dirty politicians seek more population to have more seats in Parliament / Assemblies to loot more, what do you expect. I wish I have a magic wand to reduce population to 50 crores.

Actually there is no water scarcity in Karnataka. Because they have created plenty of new dams and stored water secretly and they show the KRSagar Bhavani and other storages which have little or no storage at all and act deliberately as if they too suffer from water shortage.

And the central agency and the government believe them blindly without proper investigation

They are defying internationally respected practices of down stream riparian rights. The Govt. of India is a party to it"Whereas the Article 2 of Declaration of Montevideo 1933 points that no state may, without the consent of the other riparian state, introduce into water courses of an international character, for industrial or agricultural exploitation of their waters, any alterations which may prove injurious to other interested states." the Govt. of India & allotted Govt.Of India companies to Bangalore resulting in phenominal growth. And for water needs like that they should have brought The Ganges of their benefactor as they brought Industries .Not just time is out of joint something is rotten in the state of D--capital country ,everything is out of joint and everything is rotten R.Ponnambalam

The customary international law, declarations, Helsinki rules and UN convention on the subject establishes two important principles for all river basins: one, that the first right over the water of the rivers is that of the people living in the basin, and the second that the shared waters could neither be stopped nor diverted without the consent of the other riparian state.Cauvery is not for bangalore water supply R.Ponnambalam

Self created water scrcity
by anil sood on Jun 05, 2017 09:52 AM

It is self created scarcity of water. If government can't create additional reservoir then the least it can do is to desilt the existing channels and rivers. Because of silting space for water is ever shrinkingHb2HY

India depends upon rainwater/Monsoon for its survival..Traditional wisdom, ancient methods coupled with Modern methods can solve this issue permanently, infact if water harvesting and revival of all ancient/tradational water bodies is done on a war footing India can have surplus water for Agriculture, power generation and massive employment 365 days.
Sadly the intent of most political parties and vested interests is otherwise..

Only if National interest rises and mass awakening of general populace arise then alone can India come out of the abyss created thus so far.
India is never lack of water..its gross mismanagement.

The party that rules specifies what to be done and that the same should be brought into action by the
government officials and the staffs and employees.

But acutally majority of the officials and the employees are not willing to take the initiative; leave alone risk, commitment and bold steps.
