Thank You Rediff for educating us about The Maharaja. As time goes by one realises many Maharajas'did a lot for their kingdom and people. A very wrong picture was painted about them when I was young. My friend Col Shashi Dalvi was fortunate to receive Shahu Maharaj of Kohlapur scholar ship for mechanical engineering. His Highness was extremely happy when he joined the Army and fought in the 1971 war with distinction. The Baroda Royal family must be extremely proud that the Univ they founded boasts of two Nobel Laurates.Thankyou very much Your Highness. We feel proud as Indians.

Genuinely I feel that he is the only exceptional maharaja saving The Nawab of Hyderbad, to give so much money, service and time for development of art, education, transporatation etc. More research should be done on this great Indian Maharaja!

H.H. Maharaja, if I am not wrong was also responsible for initiating Public Library Movement in India, and he is probably the first invite an American Library professional to start training programme in librarianship. Indian Library profession owes him a lot and we celebrated 100 years of his contribution in 2011.

He was King of Kings.A Great visionary and patriot.Patronised many talented and deserving peoples including DrAmbedkar. He gifted one of his palace-Makarpura- to the Indian Air Force.
I had the wonderful chance to serve in that camp for four years 1969-73.I have very fond memories of Vadodra and its Hero King.

In The Heading of the article - "The maharaja who gave his people museums" - The Letter M Should have been in Capital lettering.

Since a Maharaja has to be Honoured & Respected even though he is No More with us and Monarchy has been abolished.

Any Maharaja or Maharani of any Empire Across The World should have a Capital Letter addressing to show him or her Due Respect for their Rule at their times is what I feel.

I am from Baroda and is really so proud of His Highness Shri Sayajirao Maharaj... His social work are still not mentioned in this.. compulsory education, free education to girls, widow remarriages, efforts to remove untouchability and what not.. if I tell today if India was to miss one thing.. I will put him first

I went to see the laxmi vilas palace in BARODA paid Rs 170 As entry fee -
What I was shown is hall and two rooms
I FELT CHEATED VISITING THIS PALACE .
one should never visit Laxmi vilas palace - as you will get cheated of money .
you will be shown ony 3 rooms out of which one is empty hall .
ONE SHOULD SEE IT FROM OUTSIDE AND GO AWAY - NO NEED TO ENTER INSIDE .
