The definition of the word Child should be "a human under the age of puberty" providing a definition that any one under the legal age of an adult as a child is frivilous a the best. Which raises a question whether a 16 year old girl or a 20 year old man is classified as a child
A Child must be anyone under the age of 12. From 13 to 19 one is a teenager. The question must be then whether teen marraige is allowed or not

Give a break. Child is not only by the physical state but also includes the maturity of mental state. even physically high maternal mortality rates by age prove strongly against Child Marriage.
For those here who justify child marriages based on past traditions and culture, please go back and crawl back into your holes. India does not need such pseudo nationalists or pseudo cultural parasites. One has to be really mentally sick to actually justify that child marriages are OK. I can only feel sorry for these people. Also, brining in regional prejudices and religions/caste angle to this issue is even more sickening. If education has not liberated these sick minds, nothing else can..its too late now.

Aditya, I think you need a hard look at what is defined as a child. A girl of 16 is not a child. In the United States in several states the age of marriage is 14. So if you think you are being highly developed by changing natures law, then you need to sit back and think again Kindly

Man, USA has its different set of problems. Visit remote places and study the problems arising because of early marriages. We need to curb early marriages in the interest of Nation. This must be above religion and geography.
In the US the legal age of marriage is 16 with exception Who gives the Indian govt the right to legalise such an age ; WHich scientific paper did they consult to make it 18. This is against biology against nature. This will have adverse effects in the society You cannot call a 16 year old as a child
